==Origin==

Dr. Albert Wily is the antagonist of the main series ''Mega Man'' games. Formerly a respected scientist and colleague of Mega Man's creator Dr. Thomas Light, the two had a falling out after his inventions and experiments were deemed unethical and dangerous. Years later, a vengeful Wily would reprogram six of Dr. Light's robots, which Mega Man eventually fought and defeated. Since then, he has created his own robots and built many fortresses, where he acts as the final boss. As a running gag throughout the classic series, Dr. Wily always ends up on his knees and begs Mega Man for mercy after he is defeated, although most of the time he manages to escape. His creation of {{b|Zero|Mega Man}} and the virus within him also makes Dr. Wily indirectly responsible for the events of the ''Mega Man X'' and ''Mega Man Zero'' series, as well as the ''Mega Man ZX'' series to a lesser extent.

An alternate universe version of Dr. Wily exists in the ''Mega Man: Battle Network'' series, named Lord Wily. Originally best friend and rival to the late Tadashi Hikari (this universe's version of Dr. Light), they had a falling out after Wily's robotics research was pushed aside in favor of Hikari's computer science research, which eventually led to advancement of the internet into a functioning Net Society. A vengeful Lord Wily then devotes his life to creating viruses that would corrupt and destroy the Net Society. However, all of his attempts were challenged and thwarted by Hikari's grandson, Lan Hikari, and his personal NetNavi MegaMan.EXE. Wily's villainous career would reach a climax in ''Battle Network 6'', as he witnessed side characters Colonel and Iris sacrifice themselves to save Net Society. Moved by these acts of selflessness, Wily denounces his evil past and vows to use his genius only for the better of Net Society. These efforts would advance the internet even further and would eventually lead into the ''Mega Man: Star Force'' series.

Dr. Wily's first appearance inside the Wily Capsule was in ''Mega Man 4'', and since then, it has been part of his final battle in all main series games (with the exception of ''Mega Man 11''), using different designs and attack patterns. The Wily Capsule he uses for his Assist Trophy role in ''Super Smash Bros. Ultimate'' is specifically the one from ''Mega Man 7''. Much like in ''Ultimate'', he attacks by teleporting to random spots in the stage and firing four elemental orbs, which spread around Mega Man before flying towards him, as well as launching electricity downward that spreads across the ground. Unlike in ''Ultimate'', he does not have a spinning ram attack. The elemental orbs can use fire, electricity, or ice; while electric orbs merely damage Mega Man, fire orbs cause him to temporarily burn in place and take constant damage, and ice orbs [[freeze]] him. The Wily Capsule in ''Mega Man 7'' is notably one of the most difficult bosses in the ''Mega Man'' series, as it is only vulnerable to a few weapons, all of which deal minimal damage, while its elemental orbs deal high damage to Mega Man and are very hard to dodge.

Dr. Wily appears as an [[Assist Trophy]] in the form of the '''Wily Capsule''' ({{ja|ワイリーカプセル|Wairī Kapuseru}}, ''Wily Capsule''), specifically the form present in ''Mega Man 7''. When summoned, he teleports to random spots above the stage and spreads four orbs around himself, which track opponents' movements before flying towards them. Each orb randomly uses one of three elements, from [[Flame|fire]], electricity and ice, with the latter two [[Paralyze|paralyzing]] and [[freezing]] opponents respectively. Dr. Wily also fires electricity towards the ground, which splits into four orbs that travel alongside it, and rams into opponents while spinning, dealing high damage and knockback. If the Wily Capsule is destroyed, Dr. Wily falls to the ground and begs for forgiveness. Dr. Wily can't appear in [[Mementos]] and [[King of Fighters Stadium]].

In [[Adventure Mode: World of Light]], Dr. Wily is presumably one of the countless spirits captured by [[Galeem]] during his takeover of the universe. Dr. Wily's spirit is located in the [[Base]] sub-dungeon of [[The Light Realm]].

Dr. Wily's Spirit Battle uses a {{SSBU|Dr. Mario}} puppet fighter and is fought on the [[Wily Castle]] stage. He is fought along eight [[Metal]] {{SSBU|Mega Man}} puppet fighters. During the stamina battle, the player must defeat the eight Metal Mega Man fighters before fighting Dr. Mario, referencing the rematches against the eight Robot Masters near the end of most ''Mega Man'' games, where defeating all of them will lead up to the final boss battle against Dr. Wily.

During the Wily Capsule spirit battle, the player must fight a [[Giant]] Metal {{SSBU|R.O.B.}} puppet fighter, representing Wily Machine 7, and is fought on the Wily Castle stage's [[Ω form]]. During the battle, the Wily Capsule appears as the Assist Trophy enemy.

*Although Dr. Wily has a trophy on both the 3DS and Wii U versions, he is one of the few non-playable characters in ''[[Super Smash Bros. 4]]'' to have different poses in both versions.
