Origin
In Super Smash Bros. 4
5-Volt is the mother of recurring WarioWare character mariowiki. Outside of being mentioned in the Japanese website of mariowiki, she made her formal debut in mariowiki as a side character of 9-Volt's story from that game. She would later reappear in mariowiki with a more greater role, and then reappear as an employee of WarioWare, Inc. in subsequent titles following Game & Warios release.

In the mariowiki minigame in Game & Wario, she fiercely watches her son as he tries to play video games after his bedtime, and the player (as 9-Volt) must alternate between playing microgames on the Wii U GamePad and hiding from 5-Volt. Her means of approach from Game & Wario are retained in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, such as appearing from the door, the window, and the TV; the appropriate sound cues are also retained if the music track WarioWare is playing.

Game & Wario makes a point of claiming that 5-Volt's representation in Gamer is strictly 9-Volt's imagination. Outside of that, even if sometimes strict, she's a sweet and careful mother for 9-Volt that also adores to cook dishes.

5-Volt is a major stage hazard on the Gamer stage, reprising her function from the source minigame in Game & Wario. She will occasionally appear in the background of the stage, looming ominously and casting her gaze upon the desk which serves as the stage. Any characters caught in her line of sight when it reaches the desk will be hit with heavy damage and knockback as she flies into a rage.

Origin
As a stage hazard
5-Volt is the mother of recurring WarioWare character 9-Volt. In the Gamer minigame in Game & Wario, she fiercely watches her son as he tries to play video games after his bedtime, and the player (as 9-Volt) must alternate between playing microgames on the Wii U GamePad and hiding from 5-Volt. Her means of approach from Game & Wario are retained in SSBU, such as appearing from the door, the window, and the TV; the appropriate sound cues are also retained if the music track WarioWare is playing. Game & Wario makes a point of claiming that 5-Volt's representation in Gamer is strictly 9-Volt's imagination.
5-Volt reprises her role on the Gamer stage, still using her design from Game & Wario. However, the sticker of her that appears on the desk is updated to her character art from WarioWare Gold.

Spirits
5-Volt also appears as two primary spirits. 5-Volt (Angry) can be obtained by enhancing the 5-Volt spirit at level 99.

5-Volt's Spirit Battle uses an Isabelle puppet fighter and is fought on the Gamer stage. During the battle, all fighters will take serious damage after a while and periodic earthquakes will shake the stage, referencing how getting caught in 5-Volt's gaze on the stage will cause the stage to tremble and take serious damage. Also, 5-Volt appears as the stage hazard.
