Fox (フォックス Fokkusu) was one of the characters confirmed to return as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4 during the E3 2013 trailers. He appears to have fur visuals of higher quality than before, similar to Donkey Kong. Also, his teeth appear to be more pronounced than in previous installments. Fox appears to have a new Japanese voice actor [1], while in English, he's voiced by his Star Fox 64 voice actor, Mike West [2].

Changes from Brawl

Fox appears to have gained some buffs, most notably in terms of power. Although in terms of speed, Fox appears to be nerfed overall.

  • Buff Fox now has a finishing kick to his neutral combo of increased power.
  • Buff Fox Illusion no longer leaves Fox helpless after the move is performed in the air.
  • Buff Fire Fox travels a greater distance, now nearly as much as it does in Melee (NTSC).
  • Buff Back throw deals slightly more damage.
  • Buff Dash attack comes out slightly faster, and appears to have consistent damage throughout.
    • Nerf However, it deals less damage.
  • Nerf Up smash is weakened and has a smaller hitbox.
  • Nerf Fox is slightly lighter than in Brawl.
  • Nerf All of his aerial attacks have greater landing lag.
  • Nerf Mid-air blaster can no longer auto-cancel upon landing, lessening it's utility.
  • Nerf Forward air no longer gives the "hover" effect it did in Brawl. It also deals drastically less damage, dealing around a third of the damage it dealt previously, overall weakening its utility.
  • Nerf Down throw deals 1% less damage.
  • Nerf Landmaster is less powerful.
    • Change It is now light blue instead of dark blue.
  • Change Fox's Blaster has a redesigned appearance, and its lasers appear to have a lighter hue to them, being more pink in color.
  • Change Fox has a new up tilt. He kicks his legs upwards in a similar fashion to his up smash.
  • Change Some of his ground attacks produce a purplish streak.
