Ness returns as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4, as confirmed by a leaker's Twitch stream. His profile art matches a previous leak.

His appearance is slightly different from his other Smash Bros. appearances, his face being thinner and the colors of all of his clothing items being more brightly colored, like in his original game. The brighter colors also go with the rest of the characters' new looks, being overall brighter.

Along with Fox, he seems to have a new voice. His new voice is slightly higher pitched, and it seems to have more of an American accent rather than an Japanese accent from his appearances in the past iterations, for example, how he says "PK Thunder" or "PK Flash".
