Sephiroth Ken and the SoCal Smash community present 0C2 - Zero Challenge, the last great and truly international Melee tournament! Come visit sunny Southern California in the middle of August and experience the best Smash talent ever aligned at one tournament, including the very best of Japan, Europe, and the rest of the international community.

Venue and date

Address:
10410 Edinger Avenue
Fountain Valley, CA 92708

Dates:
Tuesday, August 15 through Thursday, August 17, 2006.

Times:
9:30 AM start daily.
Events to run through 8:00 PM.
Doors open at 8:00 AM.

Entry fee:
$60.00. Covers entry fees for all events, as well as food and housing (see below).

The tournament will be held in the recreation room of the David L. Baker Memorial Golf Course. The surrounding area is quite beautiful, with an abundance of trees, grass-covered hills, and bodies of water. You'll be able to relax in the summer sun while waiting for your next match, or head to the driving range to relieve any stress caused by a humiliating defeat in the tournament.

Events and rules

0C2 will feature four main Smash tournaments:

  • Tuesday: Teams, Crews
  • Wednesday: International Crew battles, 1st/2nd pools of singles
  • Thursday: finish up singles bracket

Your entry fee covers admission into all four events. Sorry, but declining entrance into any of the events will not prompt any refund.

Common rules

  • Brackets
    • Singles: players will be randomly assigned into 32 pools. Each player will play round-robin games against all other players in his/her pool. The four players with the best record in each pool will advance to a 128-man double-elimination bracket.
    • Doubles: teams will be randomly assigned into 32 pools. Each team will play round-robin sets against all other teams in the pool. The top two teams from each pool will advance to a 64-team double-elimination bracket.
    • Low-tier: players will be placed into a single-elimination bracket.
    • Crews: rules TBD.
  • Stages
    • Random stages: Final Destination, Pokemon Stadium, Dreamland 64.
    • Counterpick stages: Fountain of Dreams, Yoshi's Story, Battlefield.
    • All other stages are banned. This is a compromise with the Japanese, who only play Final Destination and Dreamland 64.
    • You will not be able to ban any stages.
  • Controller ports
    • Any disagreements over controller port assignments will be settled by a coin toss.
    • Teams must use adjacent port numbers (one team on ports 1/2, the other on 3/4).
  • All sets (both in pools and brackets) will be best of 3, with finals best of 5.
  • Advanced slob picks will be in effect.
  • Players may call a double-blind pick for the first game of a set.

Awards

Exact payouts are undecided at this time, but both singles and doubles will have a first-place prize of $1200. Other placings will also see high payouts, but exact numbers will be determined later.

International Crew Battles

How does one follow up the amazing crew battles from last year's FC3 tournament? By adding the best players from Japan and the rest of the international community! At 0C2, the traditional East, Midwest, South, and West crews will have to take on five formidable newcomers:

  • Japan - lead by Captain Jack
  • PAL (Europe + Australia) - lead by Helios
  • Canada - lead by MikeMonkey
  • Hawaii/Alaska

Being the top area of the United States is no longer good enough. Now each team is vying for title of best region in the WORLD!
