Any insight into why this term was coined as the "wall" of pain? (the pain part is obvious enough).Zixor (talk) 22:13, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Because you can't move through it? - Gargomon251 (talk) 23:11, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

It's an offensive move though; you're usually pushing them back, right? Walls don't move, except for demon walls... Zixor (talk) 04:11, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

characters and technique

It is my feeling that a WoP, when broken down, is simply the act of moving forward in the air, attacking, and then moving backward. As far as I'm concerned, everything else is just nit-picking.

As the aticle states, Jigglypuff is the best character at exploiting this technique, due to its high air manuverability and multiple jumps. However, any character who is able to perform this basic function of moving foward, attacking, and then moving backwards after the attack is essentially taking advantage of some form of this technique, are they not? The better a character is at moving backward (due to air manuverability, or multiple jumps), or the better their ability to perform it with greater frequency (more rapid succession), the better they are at this technique. -and you really don't even need multiple jumps to perform the WoP, do you? You can simply jump forward, attack, and then move backward, landing on the ground. It may or may not work better without landing, but this is still a form of the WoP.

It may be the case that some characters are virtually incapable of seeing any usefull results from employing this technique, as they simply can't move backwards far enough or qucikly enough, but these levels vary greatly. Without question, Jigglypuff is the only character who can perform the "true" and most effective Wall of Pain, but I feel that the general definition / application of this technique needs to be broadened.
