Spring Jump is Sonic's Up B, which allows him to use a classic Spring from the Sonic series to recover vertically. When used on the ground, the spring is left behind and other characters are able to use it. When used in the air, the spring falls for a second and hits enemies for 4% damage. Sonic covers a lot of vertical distance with this move, but it takes a moment to gain the horizontal momentum back. This is one of the only recovery moves that doesn't allow you to grab the edge in the middle of the move (i.e. auto-sweetspoting), only after you come out of your rising animation (which ends a little bit before you reach the apex). Another notable difference between this and the rest of the cast's recovery move is that after you use it, you are still free to do aerials and SOME moves (you can't do most of his special moves after).  You can, however, air dodge or do any aerials you want.
Spring Jump is Sonic's Up Special Move in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which causes a spring from the Sonic series to immediately appear underneath him, shooting Sonic up a great vertical distance. When used on the ground, the spring remains in place for a while, allowing other characters to use it, too. If this move is used in the air, the spring falls downwards, acting similar to a projectile, making it effective for edge guarding. After using this move, Sonic still retains the ability to use normal aerial attacks and air dodges, but will be unable to use Special Attacks until he touches the ground. Additionally, this move does not allow Sonic to grab any ledges onstage(I.E. auto-sweetspot) until he is finished gaining vertical distance.
