Special Stages is a term referring to the "location" of the Battlefield and Final Destination stages in Super Smash Bros. Melee, referring to the nature of the stages simplicity, fairness, and availability compared to other stages. It seems that all of the Special Stages (even if there are only 2) are traveling through space. According to its trophy, Final Destination actually enters a wormhole to the real world during the changes of its background.
