The Screw attack was an upgrade Samus could add to her power suit in the Metroid games. It debuted as an Item in Super Smash Bros. Melee. When holding it, the character's jumps were replaced with screw attacks. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the Screw attack will stick to the character and the character will be able to use other items.

A Screw Attack (スクリューアタック, Sukuryu Atakku) has the ability to change the first and second jumps into an attack. With Jigglypuff and Kirby, only the first two jumps are affected. If thrown at an enemy, they will be knocked upwards in a Screw Attack, dragging any nearby opponents (even the thrower) into the attack. They then fall down as if they had used a recovery move. Many players use this in a sort of Pseudo-combo with a constantly damaging Up-B attack, most notably Samus' Up- B of the same name.

*When jumping, it does 8% damage.
*When thrown, it does between 20-24% damage.
