Ryota Hayami is the main racer of Nintendo's Wave Race series of games. As of now, he is merely seen as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Ryota Hayami is an 18-year-old Japanese competitor in the Wave Race tournaments. He has appeared in both Wave Race 64 and Wave Race: Blue Storm as the typical "balanced, with no real weaknesses or strengths" racer. He is considered the flagship character of the series and is often the first racer chosen by players of the games.
Ryota races for world fame. In Wave Race 64, he races with his safety helmet and goggles on, but by Blue Storm, he purposefully refrains from wearing them as he races. This is to help make his face more recognizable across the globe.
