Ryota Hayami is the main racer of Nintendo's Wave Race series of games. As of now, he is merely seen as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Description

Ryota Hayami is an 18-year-old Japanese competitor in the Wave Race tournaments. He has appeared in both Wave Race 64 and Wave Race: Blue Storm as the typical "balanced, with no real weaknesses or strengths" racer. He is considered the flagship character of the series and is often the first racer chosen by players of the games.

Ryota races for world fame. In Wave Race 64, he races with his safety helmet and goggles on, but by Wave Race: Blue Storm, he purposefully refrains from wearing them as he races. This is to help make his face more recognizable across the globe.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

Ryota Hayami cameos in Melee in the form of a trophy. The trophy is one of the 164 trophies that is acquirable through the Trophy Lottery and is found occasionally throughout the single-player modes Classic, Adventure, and All-Star. Therefore, the player should acquire it sooner or later.
