==Creature Description==
Gyarados is a colossal blue sea serpent with an intimidating, whiskered face. As stated in the Pokédex, when the small,weak fish Magikarp evolves into the long draconic, serpentine Gyarados, its brain cells undergo a structural transformation, which is said to be blamed for its wildly violent nature. Brutally vicious and enormously destructive, it can rampage for an entire month and can totally annihilate an entire major city with its Hyper Beam battle technique. Once it goes on a rampage, its ferociously violent blood not settle until it has razed the fields and mountains around it and demolished everything, even while a harsh storm is in effect. It is rarely seen in the wild but appears whenever there is world conflict, burning down any place it travels through with intensely hot flames. They say that during the past wars, it would appear and leave blazing ruins in its wake, and it has destroyed cities in ancient times.

A powerful Pokemon, it ironically evolves from Magikarp, one of the weakest Pokémon in the series, similar to Feebas evolving into Milotic. It is a Water/Flying type, and its ability to use many terrain-crossing moves called HMs combined with its power and easy availability (evolves from a common Pokemon, Magikarp, and evolves at a low level, 20), it is often on many Pokémon teams in the Kanto region. It has been in every regional main series Pokédexes from its conception. It will often have a short temper, so it will attack anything that it's mad at.

Gyarados is partially based on a Chinese legend about how carp that leapt over the Dragon Gate would become dragons (which would explain how a weak fish like Magikarp can evolve into a powerful, dragon-like sea serpent like Gyarados).

In the Pokémon TCG, Gyarados is said to weigh 518 pounds. Also, according to the card "Dark Gyarados", Gyarados is said to be 21' 4" in length.

In the beta version of Pokémon Red and Green, Gyarados had the name of Skullkraken.

There is also the legendary red Gyarados. At the beginning of Pokemon Daimond and Pearl, your rival says that he wants to go with you to catch it. It evolves from a golden Magikarp.
In Generation II Pokémon games, a red Gyarados at the Lake of Rage is a main part of the plot. After its defeat or capture, a Red Scale is obtained, which can be given to Mr. Pokémon, or Marcus Spanier, in exchange for an Exp. Share. The red Gyarados is the only Pokémon in the Generation II games that will be shiny without fail.

:'''Gyarados'''
:''An Atrocious Pokémon rarely seen in the wild. When it does appear, it's usually running rampant in a destructive rage--behavior that has the unfortunate side effect of leaving whole cities in ruin. It is said that when humans begin a conflict, Gyarados incinerates the towns of both warring parties. There are records of a Gyarados rampage lasting as long as a month.''
