Golden age

The Golden age of Super Smash Bros. Melee is usually defined as the period from 2003 to 2008, during the years of the competitive scene's greatest activity. The period between 2008 and around 2012 and 2013 have often been dubbed the "Dark Age" due to Melee's temporary but major decline in popularity. The recent Melee revival from 2013 onward has been dubbed the "Platinum age" or otherwise known as the era of "The Five Gods."
