Eruption
Eruption(噴火) is Ike's standard Special attack in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It works by holding down the button to charge the power of the attack and Ike plunging his sword into the ground. Ike is able to charge it to maximum power and deal heavy damage and knockback, whilst delivering 10% damage to himself, similar to Roy's Flare Blade. Ike thrusts his sword into the ground which then explodes in a burst of flames. The knockback caused by this move is mostly vertical when it isn't fully charged and becomes more horizontal when it is. Graphically it resembles the animation for the Bolganone spell in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. It takes approximately 5 seconds for Eruption to be fully charged up. However, like most of Ike's moves, it is powerful (37% damage and very high knockback), and charging is not needed for it to be effective. It shoots fire up into the air, giving it vertical damage as well. Also, like many of Ike's attacks, Eruption has a reasonably large effective range; it may strike opponents in all directions with the largest hitboxes being in front and above him. The knockback of the attack is largely vertical except at the tip of the blade (which is a meteor smash) and when fully charged (which is mostly horizontal). Also, the move has the most knockback when released just before being fully charged (while Ike is flashing red).
This attack, like Ike's Aether, possesses a moment when Ike is immune to the knockback (but not the damage) of any other attack. This phenomenon is dubbed "Super Armor", and certain few frames of Ike's eruption possess Super Armor. From the moment that the Special button is released to the point in which Ike's sword is thrust into the ground (or the end of the descending animation in the case of an aerial "Eruption") Ike possesses Super Armor frames. If struck by an attack during this period, the attack will continue and strike the attacking enemy and any other nearby targets.
A full charged Eruption can break any character's shield, provided that it was not a Perfect Shield. Also, Eruption can be a meteor smash when sweetspotted on the tip at the very end of the hitbox. It's quite a weak spike, and it's impracticality makes it rarely used on purpose, if at all, in competitive matches.
