The Wrecking Crew Universe refers to elements from the obscure puzzle/platformer Mario sub-series.
Franchise Description
Before Mario had cemented his reputation as a plumber/Koopa Stomper Mario and Luigi would have numerous jobs from game to game one of which, demolition workers. Wrecking Crew was released in 1985 for the Famicom and NES. In this game Mario could not Jump so he had to approach levels methodically, demolishing them in the right order all while avoiding enemies.
In Super Smash Bros.
No elements of the Wrecking Crew series appear, one of Mario's Palette swaps resembles Foreman Spike.
