Machinima, a portmanteau of machine cinema, is by short definition a collection of techniques whereby computer generated imagery (CGI) is rendered using interactive 3D engines rather than professional 3D programming software. The Super Smash Bros. series is one of many of such engines which are commonly used to make machinima. It however is not the most prominent of which. The most commonly used form of character control in Smash Bros. machinimas is digital puppetry, which involves the machinimator to become the virtual actors. This is done by using game movements and attacks to make scenes progress. Machinima.com commonly pays machinimators for their work and in exchange posts the machinima videoes on their youtube.

List of notable Super Smash Bros. machinima

Below is a list of well-known Smash Bros. machinimas along with who made them, and a short descripition.

  • Smashtasm (A Melee(season 1) and Brawl(season 2) machinima) by Shippidge
    • Smashtasm follows the story of player Super64 in online Melee servers. (Noted as the first Smash Bros. machinima to use real voice actors)
  • Peach's Slutty Adventure (A Melee machinima) by Dexterboy124
    • As the title dictates, this machinima depicts Peach in a very slutty fashion. It starts out with Peach going out to pick turnips. (This series uses word bubbles to portray lines throughout the first series, however near the end of the second series the word bubbles disappear)
  • Not Exactly Royalty (A Brawl machinima) by Dexterboy124
    • Not Exactly Royalty is a sequel series to Peach's Slutty Adventure. It begins about one year after the ending of Peach's Slutty Adventure, and Peach and Marth have gotten married and have a son (Lucas).
  • Brawlgasm (A Brawl machinima) byGuitarmasterx7
    • Brawlgasm does not truly follow much of a story line, however there are recurring elements. Some of which are Marth is Puerto Rican, Game & Watch is gay, Captain Falcon is over-dramatic, and Sonic is constantly beat up by everyone.
  • The Last Tier War (A Melee machinima) by SuperDoodleMan
    • The Last Tier War is a machinima on how the tiers affect the world of Melee. (It is currently unfinished and a new installment has not been put up in a while, leading some to believe it will not be finished).
  • Smash Fighter (A Brawl machinima) by TomKitsune
    • Smash Fighter is the story of four friends who get trapped in the Brawl universe after a regular game of smash.
  • Silver Crisis (A Brawl machinima) by MegaBlasta
    • Silver Crisis starts off with Ness and Lucas playing in Onett when a mysterious Lucario ambushes them.
  • How to Play Brawl Like a Man (A Brawl machinima/How-To) by DairunCates
    • A combination of a machinima and a tutorial video, HtPBLaM (as it is abbreviated) teaches players the true balance between casual and competitive play, focusing on achieving a "manly" play style.
