This article is about coins used as internal currency in Super Smash Bros games. For other types of coin, see Coin (disambiguation).
Gaining coins in Brawl's Classic Mode.

Coins are a type of currency used within Melee, Brawl, and Super Smash Bros. 4 for use in various features of the game. Their uses are varied; they can be used to attempt to gain trophies via the Lottery or Coin Launcher mode, or they can be used to Continue failed single-player games. In Brawl, the online component of the game also relied on coins; players were charged 1 coin if they chose a specific stage over a Random one, and players could also place bets with coins in the Spectator mode.

Coins are gained through the VS. and Single Player modes, as each battle gives the player some coins. In both cases, players receive coins for the shorter the match lasts, the higher the damage inflicted, and the more attacks they have landed on opponents. Melee had no other sources to get coins. Brawl's Character Roll Call allows players to attain coins by hitting targets on the screen, which was dependent on the difficulty of the mode, and the number of targets hit. The Spectator and Coin Launcher modes can also award coins, though the latter primarily gives a general net loss.

The largest number of coins one can have at one time is 999 in Super Smash Bros. Melee and 9999 in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. At that point, any extra coins attained in gameplay serve no purpose.

Coins return in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS where they are now called Gold.
