Can a down aerial or other move be a natural combo?

I know a natural combo consists of one mult-hitting move, but can an aerial be a natural combo? ThePikaPlayer (talk) 16:23, 29 October 2015 (EDT)User:ThePikaPlayer 4:18, 29 October 2015 (EDT)

By definition, no. Miles (talk) 17:01, 29 October 2015 (EDT)
Thanks a lot. ThePikaPlayer (talk) 17:23, 29 October 2015 (EDT)User:ThePikaPlayer 5:23, 29 October 2015 (EDT)

Item ordering

Here's an idea. I thought about you could make an ordering of items that appeared in the Super Smash Bros. series. Like you did in your other ordering articles, you could sort them by order of appearances in the games and by series. Juju1995 (talk) 20:25, 29 October 2015 (EDT)

It's not nearly as important, frankly. Items are much less central to Smash gameplay and we don't have many situations where we'd need to list off most or all of them the way we do with characters. Miles (talk) 20:33, 29 October 2015 (EDT)
I'm just giving you an idea. Juju1995 (talk) 20:50, 29 October 2015 (EDT)

Company involvement

Did HAL Laboratory, the creator of the Kirby and Super Smash Bros. series, had any involvement in SSB4? Juju1995 (talk) 21:00, 29 October 2015 (EDT)

Not in terms of development, so far as I can tell. Only providing rights for Kirby content and such. Miles (talk) 21:05, 29 October 2015 (EDT)
Correction: HAL provided "development cooperation". Take that as you will. Miles (talk) 21:07, 29 October 2015 (EDT)

Easiest Characters

Which characters are you good at in Super Smash Bros. 64? Don't forget to add links. Juju1995 (talk) 21:14, 29 October 2015 (EDT)

I've played SSB64 like twice. I hardly have a character I could say I'm good at. Also, you're kind of spamming my talk page a bit with questions. I'd appreciate if you could try to dial it back a bit. Miles (talk) 21:27, 29 October 2015 (EDT)
Okay, but could you give me at least some of them? Juju1995 (talk) 22:14, 29 October 2015 (EDT)
I have no character of preference in that game. Leave it at that. Miles (talk) 22:27, 29 October 2015 (EDT)

I'd ask him but...

You're here now and I am curious. I was browsing through our old archives (specifically SW:RFB) and noticed a lack of Toomai. Did he never actually RfB? SerpentKing (talk) 02:48, 30 October 2015 (EDT)

Correct. When we moved from Wikia to being hosted by Porple, our last active bureaucrat was Shadowcrest, aka User:Emmett. Emmett basically declared that he no longer had the time for the job, and summarily promoted Toomai (then an admin) by his own choice alone. Miles (talk) 03:59, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
Oh ok. I wondered XD thanks. SerpentKing (talk) 04:05, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
In truth, I've considered submitting a RfB of my own, since my last one was 6 years ago. It's hard to know whether it's a good idea, though... It's weird to think about how long ago that was. It seems like only two of the users who were around to support my RfA 7 years ago are still remotely active around here. I've tried to be a good leader, but I worry that my record isn't exactly quite what people would want these days. That's on top of the ambiguity about whether we really need another bureaucrat at all while Toomai is around. Miles (talk) 04:17, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
Well...let me put it this way: I am not sure I could support an RfB from you (I'd probably end up in neutral) but I would never suggest or vote in support of you being demoted or anything. Though I will say that I have agreed with many more of your decisions since the Marth argument. I do think you have made considerable progress on the feedback I left you months ago. SerpentKing (talk) 04:23, 30 October 2015 (EDT)

I may have a solution for Shin Shoryuken / Shinku Hadoken

Smasher:Naex/Xean does not display as a subpage. I am not sure why, but figuring that out may solve our problem. SerpentKing (talk) 21:14, 30 October 2015 (EDT)

...I think I know why. Give me a sec. AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 21:16, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
I knew it.
See, on the Smasher page, there's no redirect for "Smasher:Naex", so therefore there's no subpage. Whereas for SS/SH, there's a redirect from Shin Shoryuken, making it so that the wiki thinks there's a subpage (when it's really just a redirect). AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 21:18, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
There has to be some solution. SerpentKing (talk) 21:19, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
(edit conflict) But we NEED a redirect for Shin Soryuken. So that doesn't help.
Could we use display title and name it something else? Like maybe Shin Shoryuken & Shinku Hadoken? Or use a backslash? ---Preceding unsigned comment added by BOO! Or maybe Nutta. 21:20, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
"At least one person seems to dislike how the slash in the page's title results in fooling the wiki into thinking it's a subpage. Is this enough of a problem to warrant naming the page differently, perhaps with a less common slash character (like ⧸ or ⁄)? Toomai Glittershine ??? The Yoshi 17:16, 14 June 2015 (EDT)"
Why not this? AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 21:23, 30 October 2015 (EDT)

The page is fine as it is, in my book. It's an inconsequential problem. Miles (talk) 21:52, 30 October 2015 (EDT)

I disagree. Maybe it's because I'm OCD, but having the page as it is now bothers me. SerpentKing (talk) 21:54, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
I mean yeah it's inconsequential, but I also don't see why we shouldn't fix it. It's likely an easy fix. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by BOO! Or maybe Nutta. 21:56, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
If we leave the normal / as a redirect, ⁄ should convey the same point. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by BOO! Or maybe Nutta. 21:58, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
Other than é, which is kind of unavoidable sometimes, we should always be avoiding titles that aren't ASCII. Miles (talk) 22:07, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
Well, sometimes it's unavoidable to use a different type of slash, lest we have the strange and unprofessional glitchy subpage.
Alternatively, do any of our CSS-ier people know how you could hide that? ---Preceding unsigned comment added by BOO! Or maybe Nutta. 22:10, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
Technically é is extended ascii (#233) SerpentKing (talk) 22:11, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
Clarification: other than é, we should always be using titles that can be easily typed on a standard English-language keyboard. Miles (talk) 22:48, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
Isn't that one of the reasons redirects exist? ---Preceding unsigned comment added by BOO! Or maybe Nutta. 23:03, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
It's still preferable to not rely on redirects to reach most titles. Miles (talk) 23:04, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
I'd say it's also preferable to look professional and not have weird glitches on our pages. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by BOO! Or maybe Nutta. 23:05, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
We have other pages like this too. If it bothers you this much, find some other workaround that doesn't involve using questionable characters in page titles. Miles (talk) 23:14, 30 October 2015 (EDT)
'Kay, start/pause button route it is then. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by BOO! Or maybe Nutta. 23:28, 30 October 2015 (EDT)

Simple Question about Character Credits at Tournaments

Hey, sorry if you aren't the right guy to ask this to, but can you explain exactly the rules on this wiki about character icons next to a smasher's name in a specific tournament? For example... if ESAM goes Pikachu for an entire tournament, then goes Samus for one game in GF, and loses that game, then switches back to Pikachu, I understand that in the page for that tournament he would only be counted for Pikachu. But let's say for example, he lost a game with samus, then decided to stay samus for another game, and still lost. How strict are these rules exactly? I bring this up because at Smash the Record Smash 64 singles, Sheer Madness played Yoshi the entire tournament. When he got to grand finals against Wizzrobe, he lost game one with Pikachu, lost game two with Ness, then lost his last game with Pikachu. How should I credit him on the StR page? Yoshi only? Yoshi + Pikachu? Or Yoshi, Pikachu, Ness? I currently have it as Yoshi and Pikachu because he played more than one game with him, but please feel free to correct me. Sorry if this is so long, thanks! I'm uploading this to use as my signature, disregard. Kite (talk) 19:03, 31 October 2015 (EDT)

It's a good question. The general policy that seems to be in place is to list any characters that contributed to a set the player won. So in the case you mention, Sheer Madness would be credited as Yoshi only. Miles (talk) 19:07, 31 October 2015 (EDT)
Thanks for the response! Makes a lot of sense, is there any official/written rule somewhere on the wiki that goes over this? It really made me feel like I had to guess. I'm uploading this to use as my signature, disregard. Kite (talk) 19:13, 31 October 2015 (EDT)
It's not codified anywhere to my knowledge; it's just something I've seen Jamal enforcing for consistency that seemed very reasonable to me. I might draft a tourney page guideline at some point to avoid future confusion. Miles (talk) 19:15, 31 October 2015 (EDT)
Here's what I think. SW:NOTABLE needs revised...a lot...anyway. Why not just mention this there? SerpentKing (talk) 01:55, 1 November 2015 (EST)
Debatable; SW:NOTABLE is about whether a page is notable enough to exist, not about formatting. I was thinking something more along the lines of "here's a guideline page showing how to build a tournament page and format results properly". Miles (talk) 02:00, 1 November 2015 (EST)
Fair enough. SerpentKing (talk) 02:02, 1 November 2015 (EST)

So I've been thinking

about reapplying for adminship. Thoughts? Too soon? I ask because I really value your opinion in this. SerpentKing (talk) 02:01, 1 November 2015 (EST)

I'm not going to tell you what to do. Instead, let me pose you a question: what's different now from last time? Without a clear and convincing answer of what's different (and in your favor), I wouldn't expect most users, including myself, to think differently of it. Miles (talk) 02:04, 1 November 2015 (EST)
Well I feel like I have participated in more disputes and have gained experience in handling them since then. I am also much more active in vandal hunting (and I'm a rollbacker now...I see where not having that the first time was a mistake). Anyway, thanks for the help there. I think I will hold off for now. SerpentKing (talk) 02:10, 1 November 2015 (EST)

Could you please

Level of respect

Do you treat users of all types with the same respect or do you treat with different (ie higher-ranked users like admins/bureaucrats with more respect than newer users)? - Drilly the Hedgehog 15:09, 1 November 2015 (EST)

I assume good faith unless given reason to believe otherwise. Miles (talk) 15:12, 1 November 2015 (EST)
I beg your pardon, but I think this is what you were supposed to show me. - Drilly the Hedgehog 18:25, 4 November 2015 (EST)
They're both kinda the same deal. Assume good faith is more of "don't assume someone's a vandal cuz they messed up", while You are valuable is more of "just cuz you messed up doesn't mean you suck". ---Preceding unsigned comment added by a turkey! Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 21:54, 4 November 2015 (EST)

A stroke of misfortune.

I had a hard drive failure this afternoon in which I lost ...well... all the images and source stuff I was saving for SW (debug menu stages stand out the most...). I was wondering if I should be worried about restoring that locally, or if it's relatively safe to leave on SW. Serpent SKSig.png King 23:13, 1 November 2015 (EST)

Sorry to hear that. I don't think those images are going anywhere anytime soon, so there's not much need to worry about that. Miles (talk) 00:12, 2 November 2015 (EST)
Shame your hard drive failed. I'm currently decking out an SSD in my iPad! INoMedssig.png INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 02:27, 2 November 2015 (EST)
Also, until I get a suitable replacement, I am currently unable to grab screenshots from the smash games. This PC is simply not powerful enough to emulate. Serpent SKSig.png King 16:05, 2 November 2015 (EST)
Well, whatever contributions you are able to make will still be appreciated, even that particular project has to be put on hold for a while. Miles (talk) 16:10, 2 November 2015 (EST)

Whatever happened to SW:1RV? You and Omega reverted each other's edits 5 times total. - Drilly the Hedgehog 01:30, 2 November 2015 (EST)

That was two months ago Drilly, if I remember correctly, people have already called them out on it. Correct me if I'm wrong though. Disaster Flare (talk) 01:32, 2 November 2015 (EST)
As I said the last time you asked, read the talk page. Miles (talk) 01:34, 2 November 2015 (EST)
I kinda did, but all I'm asking you is isn't that a violation? - Drilly the Hedgehog 01:42, 2 November 2015 (EST)
1RV is sometimes of questionable value in cases of blatant fact/falsehood. Both of us were focusing on what we thought were the facts, and we were seeing it from two different perspectives. Regardless, the case is resolved. Miles (talk) 01:55, 2 November 2015 (EST)
Understood. - Drilly the Hedgehog 01:58, 2 November 2015 (EST)

Question

My edits keep getting reverted or changed back to mostly the same thing for no apparent reason. This happened most recently on the Ganondorf page and the Sonic page. I previously asked for a compromise when it came to the Roy page, and you responded by making the neutral tone guide. I have followed this guide and my edits continue to get reverted. In my edits, I have also tried to cut back on extraneous information, awkward wording, redundancy, and run-on sentences. I feel that my changes have been making the wiki pages more encyclopedic than they were before my revisions. I stress the fact that I do not care about having "my version" of the page displayed, just one that is more encyclopedic. I have tried to settle these problems either by posting on talk pages or saying I'd be happy to explain the reasoning behind my edits. However, none of these efforts seem to be working. What will be done about this situation? John This is for my signature, which I was told needed to be edited. PK SMAAAASH!! 17:02, 2 November 2015 (EST)

Take it to a relevant talk page. While my impression is that yes, your edits are improving the pages, reaching talk page consensus to that effect is a way to demonstrate agreement of multiple users and make it seem like less of a "my version versus their version" kind of thing. Miles (talk) 17:26, 2 November 2015 (EST)

Signature Help!

Question Concerning Power Ranking Placements

Hey, it's me, Kite, again. Sorry to bother you with so many questions but I honestly don't know who else to ask, my dilemma is on the Florida Power Rankings, in Fall 2015 (Central Florida) Rula moved here, and as an already ranked player, he automatically was sent to position 8, how should I assign his "movement"? I think a good idea would for his previous rank to be a dash, and for his movement to be a blank up arrow, but I have no idea how I would do that. What do you think? I'm uploading this to use as my signature, disregard. Kite (talk) 19:15, 3 November 2015 (EST)

The dash for previous rank is fine; movement can be either a dash or up arrow with a dash. Both convey the idea of "went from unranked up to ranked". Miles (talk) 19:54, 3 November 2015 (EST)
But the only way to make an arrow appear for movement is to add a number in previous rank, is there any way to get an arrow there while keeping the dash i want in "previous rank"? I'm uploading this to use as my signature, disregard. Kite (talk) 20:14, 3 November 2015 (EST)
Ahh, didn't realize how that template was coded. Best to just use dashes for both, then. Miles (talk) 21:15, 3 November 2015 (EST)

Maybe to sway your vote on DF's RFA

I think the recent cleanups are enough to warrant a more supportive vote. More than 1000 edits now, prerelease images cleaned up, and deprecated code removed from Smasher pages almost singlehandedly. Ganonmew, The Thankful Evil Clone 15:45, 4 November 2015 (EST)

Definitely noteworthy accomplishments, but also not enough to convince me DF is ready for the job. Miles (talk) 16:04, 4 November 2015 (EST)
I appreciate you trying to help me Ganonmew, but if anyone's going to prove to Miles that I'm capable, I want it to be me. Not being selfish by any means. I just feel that the only person who can prove they're admin-capable is themselves. Disaster Flare (talk) 16:07, 4 November 2015 (EST)
I agree that it's pretty nice accomplishments but not anything that proves him as an admin (no offense DF). I mean, he does that just as fine as a normal user.
Also, I'd hardly consider it singlehandedly.
And DF's right too. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by a turkey! Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 16:08, 4 November 2015 (EST)
Yah. But just consideration. I was pretty sure it wasn't gonna sway your vote Miles (even if it was the intention), just something for you to see. And yes, he did more than 700 of them. All I did was finish the last, what 150, and got other people like Dots to do minor help. Also, yeah, I'm just trying to help ya, DF. Ganonmew, The Thankful Evil Clone 16:32, 4 November 2015 (EST)

Question if you may

So I've been going through the incomplete section, seeing what all I could possibly add to articles, and something keeps catching my eye when going through it: SSB4 music articles. I've looked through them many times, but I don't know of any music still missing, so what is even still needed on the articles? I'd like to know so that way I can see if I can help add to it or not. Disaster Flare (talk) 20:47, 6 November 2015 (EST)

The songs should all have their headers and infoboxes. What's missing are tracks' origin information, and in some cases of remixes made for Smash, arranger credits. Miles (talk) 21:15, 6 November 2015 (EST)
I see. Alright. I'll do some digging, see if I can help. Disaster Flare (talk) 21:16, 6 November 2015 (EST)

About SW:TONE

I understand that articles must be as encyclopedic as possible, and I know you won't be updating the examples table. But could you please give more examples of words to be avoided? It becomes very difficult to list clearly obvious facts without "terrible" or "ineffective", especially when their opposites, "great" and "effective", are still okay. Drill Blaster Mark 2 (talk) 14:51, 7 November 2015 (EST)

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. What kind of "fact" requires the usage of those words, in your view? Because there's nothing I can imagine that requires word choice like that. Miles (talk) 15:10, 7 November 2015 (EST)
Mobility, stage control conversions, current tournament represantation, that kind of stuff. I know I can use "below average" or maybe "lackluster" in many cases, but then articles will be either repetitive, partly accurate or too similar. Drill Blaster Mark 2 (talk) 15:14, 7 November 2015 (EST)
"Poor" and "below average" are useful terms. I mean, look at a quote here from Palutena (SSB4):
With customs off, Palutena is very unpopular due to her bad grounded game, poor frame data, and ineffective special moveset. As such, she has little to no tournament representation, along with being one of the most, if not the most, unpopular character in low and mid-level play. Most smashers now use her as a secondary or counterpick, and typically fail to achieve notable tournament success with her.
Saying that Palutena has "poor frame data"? That's the kind of factual statement that can be cited (Kurogane Hammer or comparable). Saying that she has "little to no tournament representation"? A little tougher, but yes, there are few examples of high-level Palutena tournament play (and one can check major tournaments' results tables for confirmation). However, describing her moveset or ground game as "bad" or "ineffective" is overly general and subjective. It would be better to state, perhaps, that her non-custom special moveset is considered inferior for competitive play compared to her options with customs. Does that clarify things at all? Miles (talk) 15:26, 7 November 2015 (EST)
Definitely. THAT is much more straightforward. Kinda ironic how I didn't notice that, I've worked on that article a lot... Oh and, I would really appreciate some feedback, so check King Dedede's page when it's up. Drill Blaster Mark 2 (talk) 15:37, 7 November 2015 (EST)
Since you requested specific feedback on Dedede's page: the two sentences under Attributes need to be completely rewritten or removed outright; the changes from Brawl section is also in need of some improvement. Miles (talk) 16:02, 7 November 2015 (EST)
I'll see what I can do. Thank you very much for the help. Drill Blaster Mark 2 (talk) 16:17, 7 November 2015 (EST)

Getting back to Tekkenfan101, did you notice his behavior was the same as IMM's (um, hello?)? - Drilly the Hedgehog 23:39, 7 November 2015 (EST)
As I said previously: I have no way of proving they're the same. It could very well be a copycat vandal. Miles (talk) 02:54, 8 November 2015 (EST)
I doubt it. No other user can memorize this guy's behavior and imitate it. - Drilly the Hedgehog 21:10, 8 November 2015 (EST)

...Can it hurt to look into it further, Miles? Maybe just simply run their IPs through this and see if they correlate? Serpent SKSig.png King 21:44, 8 November 2015 (EST)

Sorry to pester, but I am concerned for 15DollarsWentSouth. Serpent SKSig.png King 22:23, 8 November 2015 (EST)
We all are concerned, we have to do something Miles. I could forgive them if they were targeting others, but the fact that they're only targeting one person is absolutely unforgivable in my eyes. Disaster Flare (talk) 22:26, 8 November 2015 (EST)
Agreed. Something has to be done before things get ugly. - Drilly the Hedgehog 22:34, 8 November 2015 (EST)
I completely understand the desire to do more, but at the moment there's not much to do. Toom already did a range block on a similar IP range, and they managed to bypass it. I don't know that there's anything else practical for us to do than what's been done. Miles (talk) 23:33, 8 November 2015 (EST)

List of challenges (SSB4-Wii U)

You reverted my edit that changed the layout of List of challenges (SSB4-Wii U), saying “don't do this without a talk page discussion please”. This change has been proposed at Talk:List of challenges (SSB4-Wii U)#Table layout, and there were no comments in almost a month. —Fenhl 01:36, 8 November 2015 (EST)

In a situation like that, you should bump the discussion. Miles (talk) 02:16, 8 November 2015 (EST)

Category:victory poses

Should I make a category like this for all of the Victory poses? There are about 150 Smash4 images that would count, and are uncategorized for now. Also, all the brawl images are only in the fair use category. That would be 200 images, 80-90 if someone put the Smash4 images together like those from Brawl. Can I make the category? DekZek Dekzeksig.png 12:16, 9 November 2015 (EST)

Sounds like a useful idea to me. I don't think our images are very well categorized generally, but that can certainly be improved upon. Miles (talk) 14:02, 9 November 2015 (EST)

Hi!

See here please. Thanks! Serpent SKSig.png King 18:37, 9 November 2015 (EST)

Because I am much too lazy to go through and tag 78 different images...

All the images here were replaced and need deleted. Thanks! Serpent SKSig.png King 03:33, 10 November 2015 (EST)

Cool. Thanks. Serpent SKSig.png King 04:44, 10 November 2015 (EST)

Then or now

I'll be honest with you, it's debatable whether you were better now or when you went under as Miles.oppenheimer. - Drilly the Hedgehog 04:28, 10 November 2015 (EST)

I haven't the slightest idea what you're trying to accomplish with this comment. If you have specific, constructive feedback, there's a place for that. If you're just idly musing over things that happened years ago and years before you joined the site, I'm not particularly interested in such a discussion. Miles (talk) 04:34, 10 November 2015 (EST)
I'm not bringing up anything. I'm just telling the truth. Also, you just gave me an idea. - Drilly the Hedgehog 02:27, 11 November 2015 (EST)

New gadget proposal

Where do I go to propose a new gadget? I have a CSS script (that could potentially be transformed into a gadget) that adds small icons next to Rollbackers, bots, admins, bcrats, and devs to the recent changes. INoMedssig.png INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 13:33, 10 November 2015 (EST)

I actually came up with this idea because of wikipedia. Wikipedia has a gadget proposal system. INoMedssig.png INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 13:35, 10 November 2015 (EST)
Just an FYI, I don't need it to become a gadget. INoMedssig.png INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 13:36, 10 November 2015 (EST)
Seems pretty unnecessary to me. Anything above a rollbacker already gets color-coding. Miles (talk) 13:40, 10 November 2015 (EST)
I know that already, but some users might want the icons for appearance. (Not all gadgets have to add features, you know!) INoMedssig.png INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 13:46, 10 November 2015 (EST)
Not trying to defend the script in any way. INoMedssig.png INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 13:50, 10 November 2015 (EST)
Ob, and I now scrap the idea. INoMedssig.png INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 13:57, 10 November 2015 (EST)

Question about coded list links

Hey, so I'm building the Las Vegas Power Rankings page, there is a smasher there named Edge, there is also another smasher that exists in Japan by the same name, how can I get Vegas' Edge to show up in red and not have the Japanese Edge that already has an article appear? Is this possible? Thanks! I'm uploading this to use as my signature, disregard. Kite (talk) 03:55, 11 November 2015 (EST)

You may want to link to Edge (USA) or something Serpent SKSig.png King 04:07, 11 November 2015 (EST)

Frankly, the more you worry about it, the more likely it's going to happen. That being said, I say we just see what happens. It could go well, it could go horribly wrong. Do YOU have a quote that is either funny or meaningful? I'm asking because I checked your userspace and found none. Drill Blaster Mark 2 (talk) 14:46, 11 November 2015 (EST)

Why are you asking me this question? You haven't provided any context. Miles (talk) 14:48, 11 November 2015 (EST)
Many users here have at least one. Some of them also keep track of them. It's just a question though, there's no need to be upset about it. Drill Blaster Mark 2 (talk) 14:51, 11 November 2015 (EST)

Tbh

Honestly, I always thought you were superior to Toomai SmashWiki-wise, but I guess I was wrong. - Drilly the Hedgehog 21:43, 11 November 2015 (EST)

Drilly, please don't get on Miles' bad side. Just because he's made mistakes doesn't mean he deserves criticism. Disaster Flare (talk) 21:44, 11 November 2015 (EST)
How am I criticizing him? - Drilly the Hedgehog 21:44, 11 November 2015 (EST)
While you aren't criticizing him outright, there's the fact that you're outright telling him he's a bad admin. I'm sure he's heard it enough times by numerous people by now, and I'm sure he gets tired of it. Disaster Flare (talk) 21:46, 11 November 2015 (EST)
I never said he's a terrible admin (no administrator is bad, obviously). I'm saying that I always thought he was higher-ranked than Toomai, but I was wrong because bureaucratship is superior to adminship. - Drilly the Hedgehog 21:49, 11 November 2015 (EST)
Ah, okay, then please try to be more careful with how you phrase things, because the way you put that initially almost sounded spiteful. Disaster Flare (talk) 21:50, 11 November 2015 (EST)
Another thing I've noticed: it seems Omega Tyrant doesn't seem to appreciate Miles for what he's doing around here and is discouraging him based on what I said (look at his oppose on his request for bureaucratship). - Drilly the Hedgehog 21:56, 11 November 2015 (EST)

"no administrator is bad, obviously"

That is a dangerous mindset to have, we tout "admins are not kings" for a reason. While their position implies authority and greater wisdom, admins are not infallible, and need to be held accountable. Whether it's me, Miles, or whoever, don't assume just because we're admins that makes us righteous. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 23:30, 11 November 2015 (EST)

I understand. I'm just wondering if you have anything against him, since the opposition comment you posted on his request for bureaucratship sounded pretty harsh. - Drilly the Hedgehog 00:02, 12 November 2015 (EST)
Question to Miles: do you and Omega have some kind of grudge to one another? - Drilly the Hedgehog 02:18, 12 November 2015 (EST)
I'm not planning on discussing this subject. Miles (talk) 02:20, 12 November 2015 (EST)
You have to admit, his opposition comment for your bureaucratship was pretty harsh. - Drilly the Hedgehog 02:21, 12 November 2015 (EST)
OT is entitled to his opinion. I'd prefer if you kept the dramatic elements out of this. Miles (talk) 02:22, 12 November 2015 (EST)
I clearly understand what you told me, Omega. I can agree Miles makes some mistakes (everybody makes mistakes, right?) and that nobody is perfect, but saying he doesn't deserve adminship along with the "What the hell?" phrase was pretty mean, even for a user of the same rank like you. No offense, Omega, but I don't see any reason Miles shouldn't become a bureaucrat. To Miles: I wish you good luck on achieving Toomai's rank. - Drilly the Hedgehog 02:26, 12 November 2015 (EST)

Hello

Is it okay for me to upload Cloud's artwork from FFVII? Smugsamodas (talk) 18:07, 12 November 2015 (EST)

Looks like it's already been done. Although a higher-quality version of that wouldn't hurt, if uploaded over it. Miles (talk) 18:08, 12 November 2015 (EST)

Let me ask

Where did you get the picture of Cloud for his fighter page? AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 18:16, 12 November 2015 (EST)

Here, seems to be all the official site has to say for now. Miles (talk) 18:17, 12 November 2015 (EST)

Is it possible...

...to move this in order to make it visible here without creating a new page in the process? I'd have tried moving it myself, but I was afraid I'd mess up somehow. Drill Blaster Mark 2 (talk) 09:19, 13 November 2015 (EST)

Quick question

How long should the character descriptions on the main character pages be? Because I was working on Cloud's, but there seems to be a bit...much.

Due to complications regarding my computer, I am unable to put a finalized version of the description on SmashWiki; however, I have it as a Word document on my computer, and perhaps I can email it to you so you can read it over and edit it to condense it (and possibly implement it into Cloud's page)? Change of Weapons

That's only the Mii Fighters, right? Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 16:25, 14 November 2015 (EST)

I wasn't even talking about those, since Mii costumes are kind of separate from standard characters' costumes. I was talking about needing the modifier of the Fusion Swords being more than a color swap for the trivia to be true, since otherwise other characters qualify as having differently colored weapons in their costumes. Miles (talk) 16:32, 14 November 2015 (EST)
Ok, but I don't think we need "in more than color" because "changes his weapons" doesn't mean it changes the weapon's color, but that it changes the weapon. Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 17:11, 14 November 2015 (EST)
Maybe it's a little redundant, but it prevents any weird technicalities like "if you count a Yoshi's egg as its weapon then red costume Yoshi has red eggs and those are different", and other things along those lines. Better to be very slightly redundant than to leave the trivia point worded in a way that borders on the ambiguous. Miles (talk) 17:20, 14 November 2015 (EST)
Yeah but those are super trivial technicalities. I get what you're saying though. Aardvarkian (TalkContributions) 17:22, 14 November 2015 (EST)

Trophy rips

What I do

Do you criticize my actions throughout this wiki? - Drilly the Hedgehog 03:37, 15 November 2015 (EST)

I don't understand what you mean by this question. Are you looking for me to provide feedback in a specific area? Miles (talk) 03:46, 15 November 2015 (EST)
Kind of. I'm only asking because other people (you probably already know one of them) have recently been criticizing my edits. What I asking you is if you think my actions (edits) across deserve to be criticized, and do you criticize them yourself? I just hope you understand that I'm here to improve the site and not turn it into total garbage, despite what others may think. - Drilly the Hedgehog 03:51, 15 November 2015 (EST)
Are you referring to the incident regarding the Roy page? The consensus of the users who commented on the page edits were in support of John's version over your own, from what I could see. I generally agreed. This isn't "hating on your edits" (how you worded it before changing it), but rather a disagreement where the consensus supported another version. That's not intended as a personal slight, and should not be taken as such. It's an important skill to recognize that in some instances, you will be in the minority and should cede a point. Miles (talk) 04:04, 15 November 2015 (EST)
No, no, no, I'm asking why do people tend to pick John's revisions over mine, and do you criticize my edits? Also, what were you saying on the Infobox Character General template? - Drilly the Hedgehog 04:09, 15 November 2015 (EST)
I generally thought John's version was more encyclopedic than yours, and his request that I voice my thoughts on the subject was why I took my draft of SW:TONE and pushed to get it established as a guideline. Whether you take that as criticism is up to you. As for the character infobox, I figured not only are there no instances in Smash where we need to distinguish between gender and sex, but using "gender" is the more common choice for such things (examples: bulbapedia:Template:CharInfobox, zeldawiki:Template:Character). Miles (talk) 04:19, 15 November 2015 (EST)
When I'm asking if you criticize my edits, I meant in general, not just for the Roy page. - Drilly the Hedgehog 04:27, 15 November 2015 (EST)
I haven't been closely following your edits personally, so I don't have any other specific criticisms to offer off the top of my head. Miles (talk) 04:37, 15 November 2015 (EST)

(reset) Last question (I hope): do you hate me? - Drilly the Hedgehog 22:59, 15 November 2015 (EST)

Sorry man.

Dang, the RFB was doing so well.... Sorry. Ganonmew, The Thankful Evil Clone 10:44, 16 November 2015 (EST)

In fairness, while I may not particularly side with his arguments against Miles, OT did bring up some good points. However, this could lead to something good; Miles could (and, most likely, will) take what people have said about him, and fix things that he still is criticized for. It seems he has improved in some areas, but still needs to work on others. AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 11:01, 16 November 2015 (EST)

What's most important is to not give up. You may have failed now, but you still remain a great admin. There will always be a second chance. Improve as much as you can until then, because if there's anyone that's going to be a bureaucrat soon, it's you. Drill Blaster Mark 2 (talk) 04:58, 17 November 2015 (EST)

Something I want to point out

According to a friend of mine, the Smash UK site accidentally leaked the date of Cloud's release, being December 3rd (which, in turn, might end up being the date of the Smash Presentation). Unfortunately, this information has since been removed, so I can't prove anything as of now. That said, what would one do with this information? AidanzapunkSig1.pngAidan, the Wandering Space WarriorAidanzapunkSig2.png 16:46, 16 November 2015 (EST)

It was faked; someone took the source from the webpage and made their own modified duplicate of it with a "release date", which they then passed off as a "leak". Look up some more information about it and you'll find people making their own website "leaks" with stuff like Shrek. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 16:52, 16 November 2015 (EST)

Rollbacks and undos

How come you sometimes undo edits, but other times you rollback edits? - Drilly the Hedgehog 01:53, 19 November 2015 (EST)

The general rule is to only use rollback if an edit is obviously in bad faith. If you want/need to leave an edit summary or there's any room for discussion, you should undo manually. SW:ROLL explains this. Miles (talk) 02:06, 19 November 2015 (EST)
Yeah. Use your rollback rights against vandals, but nothing else. INoMedssig.png INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 02:29, 19 November 2015 (EST)

So you remember how I was going to animate the victory poses for SSB?

Well as far as I can tell, debug menu or no, it's impossible to get a results screen with only one character in it. Also I'd have to rely on the RNG because there is no way for me to set which pose will be selected. Debug menu sadly does not cover the result screen (it's supposed to, there's an option for it, but it doesn't work). Serpent SKSig.png King 00:11, 20 November 2015 (EST)

It's honestly okay if there's a character in the back clapping. If anything it's beneficial since it looks more like normal gameplay. I'd say the same would apply for Brawl, too. Mario clapping in back does no harm. Miles (talk) 00:15, 20 November 2015 (EST)

Question: What do I do if I want to move a file without leaving redirect, but it's used on an archived talk page? Serpent SKSig.png King 11:25, 23 November 2015 (EST)

Preventing a pointless redlink like that is an acceptable reason to edit an archived talk page, I'd say. Especially if the image itself isn't changing, since you're preserving the intent of the archived link. Miles (talk) 12:04, 23 November 2015 (EST)
Ok thanks. Serpent SKSig.png King 12:06, 23 November 2015 (EST)

So...

Can we get rid of those other 3 images too? Serpent SKSig.png King 14:31, 25 November 2015 (EST)

Which 3? If you mean the rendered Brawl character art, I'd say yes. I was going to do it myself in a minute, but you're certainly free to do it while I combine these amiibo categories. Miles (talk) 14:32, 25 November 2015 (EST)

My best suggestion would be to follow something like List of swords as a guide. Give a brief intro and description with an interwiki link, then explain how Smash uses it, and if there's enough uses to warrant it, include a gallery. Miles (talk) 17:46, 25 November 2015 (EST)

Looks mostly okay. Maybe add a section on Donut Blocks (Rainbow Cruise, Super Mario Maker, etc.)? Miles (talk) 19:27, 25 November 2015 (EST)
Ok did it, also added "Other Blocks," but that still don't feel totally right. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 19:48, 25 November 2015 (EST)

Question.

So Drilly has been pestering asking me over the IRC to give him back talk privs. As you were the one who removed them in the first place, I am asking you first: should we? Serpent SKSig.png King 20:16, 28 November 2015 (EST)

I don't see why. He had solidified the point that he was sockpuppeting, and was using his talk page privileges inappropriately. The only reason his talk page privileges weren't blocked in the initial blocking action was to give him a chance to explain himself; as it stands, he has forfeited that right. Miles (talk) 20:37, 28 November 2015 (EST)

About references...

I'm still getting used to the wiki, but I have a question. When it comes to references (whether it be a photo, video, or website), would it be ok to add it to an article if it were... well for example: I uploaded a video on YouTube that I wanted to use as a reference (a highlight reel of a Smash battle on the Pirate Ship stage) and it involved one of the players glitching through the stage and getting KOed. Would it be alright if I used that video as a reference? I'm unsure if it's OK to do so if it were my own "information" from another source. It's a bit difficult to explain... Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y88w9Cy_K7U

I'm unsure how this glitch happened, but I could check it out at some point unless the glitch is fixed in a newer update.

It's acceptable to link it as a citation in such a circumstance, yes. Original research isn't necessarily as frowned upon in the context of SmashWiki as it would be on, say, Wikipedia. The context is different. Miles (talk) 23:52, 2 December 2015 (EST)
