Robin (ルフレ, Reflet) has been confirmed to be a newcomer in Super Smash Bros. 4. Robin was confirmed during a live stream on the official Smash Bros. website on July 14, 2014. July 14 is one day before Fire Emblem: Shin Monshō no Nazo: Hikari to Kage no EiyūShe was released in 2010, and it is 2 days before Fire Emblem for the GBA was released in 2003. As with Wii Fit Trainer and Villager, both male and female variants of Robin appear in SSB4, just like how players could select a gender for the character in Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Known moveset

• His Special moves seem to revolve around Spell Tomes. They are powerful, but have limited uses, reflecting a trait that weapons possess in the Fire Emblem series where a weapon can be used a certain amount of times before breaking. Robin's tome changes with each special attack, and Robin will keep that tome equipped unless he uses a different special move.
  • His neutral special move is Thunder. The move can be charged, with higher charge changing the move to Elthunder, Arcthunder, and Thoron. The charge can be stored with the shield button.
  • His up special move is Elwind.
  • His side special move is Arcfire.
  • His down special move is Nosferatu.
• The type of tome Robin has equipped changes the effects of some of his standard attacks, such as the neutral combo, which can finish with a fiery blast, or repeated Elwind slashes.
• When a tome is used up, Robin can throw it away. Opponents hit by the tome as it bounces away will receive damage.
• Two swipes, appearing to be his jab, that can end in a rapid jab if Elwind is equipped, or a fiery explosion if Arcfire is equipped.
• A slash with his equipped sword while crouching, possibly a down tilt.
• For some moves, Robin also uses a Levin Sword, a recurring weapon in the Fire Emblem series that can be used as both a physical and magical weapon. It is activated by using smash attacks, either in the air or on the ground. It eventually breaks, but it can be reused after a set amount of time. Robin uses a Bronze Sword when the Levin sword is unavailable.
  • A chargeable downwards slash that hits in front of him, appearing to be a forward smash very similar in animation to that of Marth.
  • An upwards slash in midair.
    • Both of these moves appear to have electric properties, even when Robin does not have the Thunder tome equipped.
• Chrom appears as part of his Final Smash, which appears to be a trapping slash move analogous to Great Aether.

In Super Smash Bros. 4, special moves can be swapped out for different variants, but Robin's have not yet been seen. These are Robin's special moves:

Trivia

• Robin's poster on the official site is illustrated by Yusuke Kozaki, the art director of Fire Emblem Awakening.
• The official art of the Wii Fit Trainer and Villager has only their female and male forms respectively, making Robin the first character on the site to have their official art incorporate both the female and male versions (not counting the Mii Fighters, which have distinct fighting styles).
• Robin is the first Fire Emblem representative not to have Counter as a down special move and a neutral special move involving a charged sword strike.
  • Robin is also the first Fire Emblem representative to have a projectile.
