Brawl-
Brawl- (also known as Brawl Minus or B-) is a mod of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Compared to Brawl+, which was designed to be balanced through reasonable tweaks to characters, the intent of Brawl- is to give all characters incredible buffs and options until they are all equally overpowered, and thus balanced. The mod's focus on over-the-top physics changes and new character gimmicks has resulted in popularity second only to Project M.
As of version 3.Q, Brawl-'s character roster includes Pichu and Roy, characters that were playable only in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
On December 12, 2014, version 4.0 was announced. It changes many things from the previous version.
Features
- No random Prat Falling. Running into or getting hit by Banana Peels will still result in tripping, and most moves with hitboxes that contained a chance of tripping are now guaranteed to trip grounded opponents.
- Dash canceling via crouching has returned from Melee.
- No replay time limit.
- Window of time for dash-dancing lengthened, enabling more Melee-like DDing.
- Ability to shield during dash-dancing.
- Ability to crouch when running after the initial dash, which also gives the players the ability to perform a running down smash.
- No stale move negation.
- Lagless edges - characters can now drop from or climb onto ledges immediately after grabbing them.
Gameplay tweaks
- Increased shield stun (duration stuck in shield while being attacked).
- Increased hitstun, being a ×0.54 multiplier, which is slightly higher than Super Smash Bros.' ×0.533 multiplier. The ability to act out of hitstun has also been completely removed.
- Air dodging is disabled during tumbling, similar to Melee.
- Every character changed, ranging from subtle changes to radically recreated characters.
- Every character can wall jump.
- Teching is easier to perform, since it can now be buffered before the character is even hit.
- Shield pushback has increased.
- Attacks performed on Ice now do more damage and knockback, and have more time reduced per input.
- Ice also has higher gravity.
Stage changes
Many stages are customized or replaced completely. All Brawl stages not listed here are unchanged from the original Brawl.
- 75m (now comprises of a single large platform, a smaller raised platform to the right, and one column of elevators to the left)
- Brinstar (destroying the floor substance brings the two halves together into one platform instead of distancing them)
- Castle Siege (floor removed on the second stage, and all platforms can be ledgegrabbed; upper platforms no longer walkoff platforms)
- Final Destination (SSBM) (main platform tilts drastically about every minute, and Master Hand and Crazy Hand appear in the background; replaces Distant Planet)
- Dream Greens (Dream Land with Green Greens' aesthetics and apples; replaces Green Greens)
- Final Destination (SSBB) (ledge collisions have been smoothed, preventing getting caught under them)
- Fountain of Dreams (no reflections in the water; replaces Rainbow Cruise)
- Frigate Orpheon (ledge collisions have been smoothed)
- Green Hill Zone (no longer a walkoff stage)
- Halberd (claw removed)
- Hyrule Castle (no tornado hazards; replaces Bridge of Eldin)
- Jungle Japes (slope added connecting the main and right platforms, river's strength slightly weakened, Klaptrap frequency increased)
- Kongo Jungle (SSB) (replaces Hanenbow)
- Lavaville (Smashville with Norfair's background and hazards; replaces Norfair)
- Lavender Town (based on a stage in Super Smash Land; replaces Flat Zone 2)
- Luigi's Mansion (second floor is drop-through)
- Lylat Cruise (stage doesn't tilt)
- Meta Crystal (replaces Mario Bros.)
- New Pork City (rearranged to remove caves of life)
- Peach's Castle (bumper acts as a stationary solid block; replaces Mushroomy Kingdom)
- Pictochat (some drawings are restructured)
- Pirate Ship (cannon fires faster)
- Pokémon Stadium (permanently on the forest/jungle stage)
- Pokémon Stadium 2 (no stage transformations)
- Port Town Aero Drive (additional grabbable edges and wall jumpable walls)
- Rumble Falls (made into a neutral stage with a bridge and three platforms)
- Saffron City (replaces Big Blue)
- Skyworld (only the rightmost platform is breakable, and cloud platforms are removed)
- Spear Pillar (Dialga, Palkia, or Cresselia can be chosen by holding A+R, A+L, or A+Z during loading respectively; they are no longer a stage hazard, and the cave has been removed)
- Summit (grabbable edges)
- Temple (uses the layout of Skyloft from Project M with the original Temple's aesthetics)
- WarioWare, Inc. (no microgames, and the platforms will change positions about every 45 seconds)
- Yoshi's Island (SSBB) (all walls are now wall jumpable)
- Yoshi's Story (replaces Yoshi's Island (SSBM))
Menu changes
- The Wii Remote warning, loading screen, and the beginning of the opening movie are different.
- The title screen is different.
- The main menu has a purple background.
- Some menu option buttons have different icons and fonts, and points on their borders.
- Zero Suit Samus, Sheik, Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard have been given their own independent character select slots.
- Menus can be sped up by holding L or R.
Errors
- The character select screen will occasionally freeze the game on the one-player modes.
- Brawl- will sometimes delete music from Battlefield. This has the side effect of occasionally having no music playing on Battlefield and freezing My Music every time it is accessed (even when Brawl- is not currently in use). The file that can reset Battlefield's music can be found here (must replace the existing .gct file to work properly).
