Thorn helix

A thorn helix in The Swamp.

In the Subspace Emissary, certain levels with water include a hazard called a Thorn helix that bursts out of the water at certain times. These appear as thorned spirals of vine, and will often destroy some of the terrain and deal slash damage to a player if they are touched. However, they are not enemies, and cannot be destroyed. Because of this, it is unknown whether they serve the Subspace Army or are just a natural part of the area.

This hazard only appears in The Swamp and The Great Maze.
