Hi there!Edit

Welcome!

Welcome to our wiki, and thank you for your contributions! There's a lot to do around here, so I hope you'll stay with us and make many more improvements.

Read this first as it provides many great resources designed to help users get oriented with the wiki and become part of the community.
Visit the recent changes to see what other people are editing right this minute, and where you can help.
Questions? You can ask at the help desk or on the "discussion" page associated with each article, or post a message on my talk page!
Need help? The community portal has an outline of the site, and pages to help you learn how to edit.

General TalkEdit

I'm really happy to have you here, and look forward to working with you!

Thanks. Likewise!   davidvkimball 19:25, 14 July 2013 (EDT)

SW:TALKEdit

Don't remove Talk Page content. DoctorPain99 00:41, 13 July 2013 (EDT)

Sorry for deleting that content. I only did that because I saw other users have different looking user talk pages than the default. How should I be using my talk page? I read the SW:TALK post but I didn't see anything about that. My bad. Anyway, nice to meet you. I'm David.   davidvkimball 00:50, 13 July 2013 (EDT)
User talk pages, and talk pages in general are used for discussion about on-wiki matters about its associated page. For example, when we need to talk about an issue on the Marth (SSBM) page, we do so on Talk:Marth (SSBM). Leisurely converstaion about Smash Bros. or anything else is done on our IRC channel. Also, we generally respond to talk page posts on the page they were originally posted on to make the conversation easy to follow. DoctorPain99 01:00, 13 July 2013 (EDT)
Understood. I won't make that mistake again.   davidvkimball 01:10, 13 July 2013 (EDT)

BrawlEdit

Do you brawl online? Scr7  08:39, 14 July 2013 (EDT)

Not generally...I tend to john about the lag most of the time. But hey, who knows. Maybe I'll get mature and actually try to compensate for the lag and try to get competitive on Wi-Fi. Any tips on how to do that?   davidvkimball 14:31, 14 July 2013 (EDT)
Don't think that the lag makes you do worse, as the other person gets it too. Other than that I don't really know. Scr7  14:34, 14 July 2013 (EDT)
I'd say it has the potential to make you worse if you're not used to the delay! I'd argue someone's entire style needs an overhaul to even play with lag. For example, you probably don't use the same fighting style with no delay as you would with some delay. Does that make sense?   davidvkimball 18:50, 14 July 2013 (EDT)
Yes, but your style doesn't need an entire overhaul to play with lag, you just need to realise that some things can be much more dangerous (such as edgeguarding). The lag is certainly annoying, and you may need to use certain techniques less because the lag messes them up (this happens with me sometimes, for example when I use QAC with Pikachu, the lag makes it much slower and harder to control when approaching and escaping situations), but I cannot agree that it makes you a worse player. Scr7  12:32, 15 July 2013 (EDT)
Alright. Well would you consider mentoring me for Wi-Fi Brawl matches sometime? I wouldn't mind Brawling you normally first, I just generally get frustrated with the delay. I'm about to go on vacation, so it wouldn't be any time soon, but just wondering if you're interested. In any case, my Brawl code is: 2023-0914-6178.
I can brawl you whenever I'm clearly online on the wiki. My code is on my userpage in the infobox. I'm not sure about mentoring you because I'm not good at mentoring, but whatever. Scr7  15:00, 15 July 2013 (EDT)
Sounds good. I'll hit you up sometime!   davidvkimball 15:08, 15 July 2013 (EDT)

HeyEdit

Are you aware of our IRC channel? (If you don't have a client you can use this instead.) It's a place we use for casual chat and to discuss stuff. It'd be pretty nice to see you on there. Scr7  13:44, 1 August 2013 (EDT)

Yes, I am! I don't have a client so I use the web chat. When I joined, however, it seemed to be relatively deserted, and I even left it up for a few days to attempt a chat, but it was in vain. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?   davidvkimball 13:55, 1 August 2013 (EDT)
On the main #sw channel, I don't really see discussions that much either, but they do happen quite a bit. Most people in the "Idlers" section will probably be there though, if you PM them. Scr7  14:12, 1 August 2013 (EDT)

Uploading screenshotsEdit

Please avoid uploading screenshots from resolutions higher than the game's native output. Thanks. Miles (talk) 18:45, 15 February 2015 (EST)

My bad, didn't realize that was against the rules.   davidvkimball

Your smashwiki signature...Edit

...as seen here, is not acceptable, as it contains a mainspace image. Users are not allowed to use them in their talk page signature - you may, however, upload a copy of that image and use that instead. Black Vulpine the 🦊Furry🐺. Furries make the internets go! :3 06:35, March 9, 2022 (EST)

Hey, thanks for letting me know. I've uploaded my own version and am using that one instead.   davidvkimball 00:25, March 10, 2022 (EST)

This hereEdit

The last comment on the section was over 12 years ago. Next time if you want re-open an old topic, make a new section instead. And also I'd recommend not begining your comment with blatant cockiness, it only looks unprofessional.   Omega Toad, the Toad Warrior. (I'm the best!) 06:37, March 9, 2022 (EST)

I'll make a new section in the future. Wasn't sure what was more important, keeping like-conversations grouped together, or posting towards the bottom / making a new topic to show relevance. Also, your advice is noted. I didn't mean to come across that way at all.   davidvkimball 00:26, March 10, 2022 (EST)
