Dharkon (ダーズ, Darz) is one of the two main antagonists of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Adventure Mode: World of Light and the dark counterpart of Galeem, he is described as the "Embodiment of Chaos and Darkness" in the World of Light. His goal, unlike Galeem’s, is to destroy the universe.

History

After Galeem's first defeat, Dharkon appears from a crack in the sky, commanding an army of Crazy Hands. After the Crazy Hands briefly fight the Master Hands and win, Galeem proceeds to flee. Dharkon proceeds to take control of the remaining captive fighters and Spirits and creates a world of darkness. After Dharkon's first defeat, he proceeds to flee into the final world, with Galeem following soon after. In the final world, Galeem and Dharkon wage war against each other, but are also seeking to destroy the fighters. If only Galeem is defeated, Dharkon destroys Galeem's army, enchains and impales him, and engulfs the world in darkness, resulting in one of two bad endings. The true ending can be obtained by defeating both Dharkon and Galeem. Both Dharkon and Galeem are finally defeated, falling into the sea and exploding as their army disappears.

Battle

Dharkon can only be damaged by attacking its eye. It has the following attacks:

  • Dharkon creates three or four small X-shaped objects that explode in beams of darkness like X Bombs.
  • Dharkon creates beams of darkness that erupt from the ground.
  • One of Dharkon's tentacles travels around the arena while coated in dark energy, attempting to damage the player, with his eye trailing behind it.
  • Dharkon uses three of his tentacles to attack the player one after another. Dharkon's eye is exposed when the third tentacle strikes.
  • Dharkon produces two False characters to support it. These false characters will eventually self-destruct after a period of time and can inflict damage when they do so. If Galeem has also created false characters, they will fight each other.
  • Dharkon creates a dark portal, unravels its tentacles, and rushes the player with them from multiple angles.
  • Dharkon rips a large red "X" across the screen that lingers for a while, with the player character being slowed while inside it.
  • Dharkon shoots a barrage of small energy bullets. If Dharkon has taken enough damage, it will end the barrage with a larger, more powerful blast.

If the player fights both Dharkon and Galeem simultaneously, these attacks can damage Galeem if his core gets caught in an attack. Dharkon has these following attacks when Galeem is present:

  • When Galeem is stunned, Dharkon will transform into a giant hammer and smash Galeem, causing damage to Galeem and the player if struck by it.

Trivia

  • Dharkon's theme is mostly comprised of the fourth verse of Lifelight, the main theme of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
  • Dharkon's name is a corruption of the word "darken", similarly to how Galeem's name is a corruption of "gleam".
  • Dharkon's appearance of being an organic mass of tentacles resembles Azathoth, a being featured in the Cthulhu mythos. Along with his single slitted eye, he could also be compared to Shuma-Gorath and Yog-Sothoth.
