Wario returns as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4, as confirmed by a leaker's Twitch stream. This time around, he is unlockable, as opposed to being available from the start in Brawl.

He retains his biker outfit from the WarioWare series, as well as his overalls from the Mario games.

Changes from Brawl

  • Buff Foward tilt is sped up.
  • Buff Wario's forward-smash is no longer the shoulder bash, and instead is a backhanded punch, which has more range.
  • Buff Down Smash has less endlag.
  • Buff Down tilt is sped up.
  • Buff Wario's up-smash is replaced with a head butt similar to Mario, Luigi and Dr. Mario's, which is stronger.
  • Change Wario Bike can no longer be broken into pieces.
    • Nerf This means he can no longer use the bike's wheels as projectiles.
  • Change Wario's animations are generally more fluid than in Brawl.
  • Change Wario's back and forward throws from Brawl have swapped places.

  • Wario is the only character that debuted as a starter to be made unlockable in a later game.
  • He is the only character to have less palette swaps in Smash 4 than in Brawl, going from 12 options to 8 options.
