This doesn't seem like anything more than a coincidence to me, it seems like they just wanted to show him off in the Nintendo Direct, which just happened to be on this day. My guess is that Diddy was actually meant to be announced on that day, but due to the Direct, they pushed him back to the US release. (Which seemed odd to me) I do think it's worth a mention in the trivia, though. :I also agree, even if it was unintentional, it does help to show the connection Mac has with DK with his announcement being along side the release of Tropical Freeze. And it's not like having that there is hurting anyone.
