Wi-Fi Warrior Mario
I have heard of a Wi-Fi Warrior named Nao who likes to play as Mario in his/her tournaments. Is he/she the same as the Japanese Palutena player? Is he/she notable enough to be included in this article? ==Moveset names==
I see that the attacks of Mario’s moveset have been given names similarly to Sonic’s article (e.g.: forward tilt is named “middle kick”). I am confused why they are there on both articles. If anyone knows a source for those names, please reply with a link to the source. Thanks in advance. :They are sourced from a Japanese wiki which sources it from a guide book. This book was advertised by the official Japanese Smash Twitter account and was effectively deemed official by wiki standards and it was decided we use Japanese translations from official sources. Here's Mario page on that wiki. I have the guide book on-hand and can confirm that "ミドルキック" (middle kick) is what is listed. --CanvasK (talk) 12:19, October 17, 2021 (EDT)
::I've noticed that not every character has been updated with the translations of the japanese move names, is that something thats gonna be added in the future or is there a reason they haven't been added? because i figured i'd help add the translations. :::If it is the DLC characters, then they likely won't have any unless the guidebook the Japanese wiki uses got a reprint with them included. As for non-DLC, not sure why they weren't done. BubbleRevolution was doing most of them, could be any number of reasons why they didn't/couldn't finish. If you do decide to get the rest, avoid using machine translation (Google Translate, DeepL, etc.) as they aren't always accurate, especially for fictional objects/characters—some are obvious like the one above where it is an already English word transliterated to Japanese. --CanvasK (talk) 15:47, May 2, 2022 (EDT)
:::: yeah, i meant the non dlc characters, i noticed that only one person was doing them and that they stopped a while ago. i'm aware machine translation is inaccurate sometimes so i planned on using that in combination with more direct reputable sources (including some of my friends who do speak japanese). there are instances where a word doesnt directly translate to english like with charizard's forward smash (ぶちかまし, buchikamashi) which is a sumo move. i was wondering if in those cases we go with the literal translation "buchikamashi" or an interpretation/closest english word like "headbutt charge"Luigi86101 (talk) 17:57, May 2, 2022 (EDT)
:::::Sounds like a solid plan. Perhaps the latter option would be better. I couldn't find many examples from BR's edits other than 2 on Bowser; Google Translate failed on them and DeepL gave a decent result. --CanvasK (talk) 18:25, May 2, 2022 (EDT)
::::::You said you have the guide book on hand right? Do you mind confirming if every character has the same name for their grab (in japanese), つかみ (tsukami)? That what it lists on the japanese smash wiki but the samus page here on this smash wiki it lists hers as グラップリングビーム (Gurappuringu Bīmu).Luigi86101 (talk) 21:50, May 7, 2022 (EDT)
:::::::It doesn't appear to explicitly name them like it does everything else. I found "つかみ" on every page up to and including Samus (stopped checking after that), but it was used more like an attribute like one would describe run speed or weight. "グラップリング" is used as part of Samus' throws that use the grapple, but I can't make out a use of the full "グラップリングビーム". Granted, I've never studied Japanese and can't read it, so I may be overlooking it. I can try to take pictures of the pages like I did for the Poke Ball moves, if I do I'll message you on your talk page about it. --CanvasK (talk) 22:17, May 7, 2022 (EDT)
::::::::At the moment that was the only thing that needed clearing up so I don't need the pictures right now, but if you're able to do so that would still be appreciated, thanks. Perhaps they use グラップリングビーム in the japanese in-game tips like in the english ones. Luigi86101 (talk) 22:41, May 7, 2022 (EDT)
