Polar Bears are enemies from the Ice Climber universe. They appear in stage 10 of Super Smash Bros. Melee's Adventure Mode, which takes place on Icicle Mountain, on the Summit stage of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and in Smash Run of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

Character description

The Polar Bear trophy in Melee.

Polar Bears are tall, bipedal, arctic bears that wear shorts and a pair of sunglasses. It is unknown why they wear pink shorts and sunglasses, and the Polar Bear trophy does not clarify this. Polar Bears originally made an appearance in the Ice Climber game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Polar Bears would appear as an enemy on the mountain that the Ice Climbers were scaling. If a Ice Climber was taking too long to climb up a level of a mountain, one would appear and will stomp on the ice to move up one level, making an Ice Climber lose a life if one was at the lowest possible level.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

Polar Bears serve both as an enemy and an obstacle. They also appear as a collectable trophy. Polar Bears walk back and forth on the arena, similar to a Topi. In Adventure Mode, they can also force the screen to scroll up. Polar Bears deal quite a bit of damage, and can easily KO a player. Like other enemies, they can be grabbed and thrown for an instant KO - otherwise, they have about 40 HP. By KO-ing a Polar Bear, the player is awarded the "Polar Bear KO" bonus, which is worth 800 points.

Trophy

Polar Bear
This bizarre beast appears whenever the Ice Climbers take five during their ascents. Each leap the upright bear makes causes an earthquake and makes the mountain scroll upward. If the climbers fall off the bottom of the screen, they'll drop into a bottomless chasm. For reasons unknown, it sports pink shorts and sunglasses.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

A Polar Bear appears as a hazard on the stage Summit. The polar bear pushes the iceberg deeper into the water while standing on the summit of the iceberg. When the Summit falls down again with the Polar Bear, he will fly off, but will come back when the Summit is in the water again.
