Meta Knight (SSB4): Difference between revisions

Meta Knight was ranked at 10th on the first official 4BR [[Tier list]], in the high-tier. Players acknowledged his proficiency in edge-guarding, frame data, and KO'ing ability, along with his infamous up aerial combos that were reliable on the entire cast, traits that he retained from ''Brawl''. Many players believed he should have been placed even higher as one of the best characters, a major reason being that he was considered to lack notably disadvantageous match-ups other than {{SSB4|Sheik}}. These positive views were in stark contrast to earlier opinions on Meta Knight, with players arguing that his nerfs from ''Brawl'' were too harsh for him to be better than a mid-tier character. However, after being heavily buffed over several patches and seeing increasingly noteworthy results from his best players across different regions, most famously Leo in Mexico, top players such as {{Sm|ZeRo}} reevaluated their opinions on the character, and Meta Knight saw a subsequent rise in popularity, with {{Sm|Mr. R}} and {{Sm|Nairo}} occasionally using the character and Abadango deciding to main him, and his perceivably advantageous match-up against {{SSB4|Rosalina}}, a character ranked above him, boosted his meta game even further, as it made him valuable as a counter-pick.   

Meta Knight's status went into a sudden decline after the nerfs to his up aerial combos in patch 1.1.5, which were a driving force behind his success. Several of his best players began to use secondaries more often, such as Leo with Marth and Tyrant with Sheik and Diddy, and others such as Katakiri have dropped the character entirely. Regardless, he still possesses a good punish game and popularity as a counter-pick to Rosalina, and he continues to gain noteworthy results, allowing him to maintain his high-tier position at 13th on the second version of the tier list, only a slight drop from his previous ranking.
