Jigglypuff has the most notable shield jump, because unlike other characters, whose shield jump height is negligible, Jigglypuff<nowiki>'s</nowiki> height is extremely high, causing it to fly far above the upper blast line. This almost always causes it to self-destruct.

The reason Jigglypuff's shield jump is so high has never been explained. Some smashers claim it acts as a way to "punish" Jigglypuff for having a large shield in proportion to its body, though this is rejected by others due to the fact that other small characters such as Kirby and Olimar lack a similar property with their shields.

It may simply have to do with Jigglypuff being the "Balloon Pokémon", in which the extremity of the jump is in reference to popping a balloon.
