This article mentions that Snake's bio in SSBU referred to the NES Metal Gear game as his first appearance. I think it should be worth pointing out that that was first Metal Gear game that was released in North America and that's probably why they said it's his first appearance. Also, his sprite that was in the Bringing Back the 80s banner was actually taken from the MSX2 game.
