The attack consists of Pyra twirling her blade around her, similar to the Spin Attack from The Legend of Zelda franchise and Spin Slash from the Kirby franchise, hitting multiple times, ending in a final explosion. The button can be held to charge up the move, which increases both the power and number of the blade's hits. Uncharged Flame Novas causes the blade to rotate around Pyra once, while fully charged versions performs three full rotations. Much like Eruption, the player cannot cancel the charge, and must commit to using the full charge. The player can also slightly move left or right on the ground while the move is activated.

*Masahiro Sakurai revealed in a YouTube video that the position of the Aegis during Flame Nova was changed from perpendicular to Pyra to a diagonal angle to look more physically realistic.
