Samus Aran (サムス・アラン, Samusu Aran) is a starter character in Super Smash Bros. Melee. She is a very versatile character in the game, possessing an excellent moveset that allows her to handle all kinds of situations. She is also fairly heavy and has arguably the best recovery in the game if you utilize her bomb jumping and grapple beam. Samus also has a weird assortment of techniques such as the Super Wavedash and the Extended Grapple.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Powerful projectiles
  • Extremely long horizontal and vertical recovery
  • Fast, fairly long Wavedash
  • May have the most amount of "tricks" in the game
  • Great edgeguarder
  • Has least average landing lag from her L-canceled aerials - all are 7 frames
  • Has the best crouch cancel
  • Has a very good sex kick
  • Extended grapple gives her the longest and most tricky grab

Cons

  • Dies off the top at low percentages
  • Easily shieldgrabbed
  • Worst roll in game
  • Grab is very situational because of startup and long lag afterwards if she misses
  • Hard to combo most characters. In the case of space animals, it is hard to initiate the combos because the guaranteed ones require a grab.
  • Bomb recovery can be disrupted by certain projectiles (particularly samus' homing missile)
