Goombas made their debut in ''[[Super Mario Bros.]]'' as a common enemy, and have reprised that role in later ''Mario'' games. Along with the [[Koopa Troopa]]s, the Goombas are some of the most recognizable enemies of the ''Mario'' series. They are anthropomorphic brown mushroom-like enemies that feature a scowling face with fangs protruding from both sides of their lower jaw. They are said to have once been loyal to the Mushroom Kingdom, but switched sides upon the invasion of the Koopa Troop, though some Goombas remain peaceful.


A single Goomba appears in the background of the Mushroom Kingdom stage.
Goombas are the most basic enemy in the series. They simply walk around, turn around at walls, and fall from ledges. They are known for damaging the player on contact, but they can be easily defeated by jumping on them.
