Kirby (SSB4): Difference between revisions

Kirby was initially [[nerf]]ed in the transition from ''Brawl'' to ''SSB4'' despite being a mid-tier character in ''Brawl'', but as of patch 1.1.0, Kirby has been considered to be slightly nerfed overall. While many of the issues he had in ''Brawl'' (poor mobility, light weight, floaty), have not been addressed, and have actually been slightly worsened due to the nerf on his range, many of Kirby's less reliable moves from ''Brawl'' - particularly his Down Air and Inhale - have been buffed and now possess much more utility. The recent Forward Throw buff, in particular, now makes Kirby's punishes much stronger, and some of his buffs (to his Back Throw, Up Smash, and Down Air) have granted him a few more killing options, despite the nerfs to his Back Air and Forward Smash. Overall, while these changes haven't really improved his approaching issues (aside from the Inhale buff), they made his punish/kill game much more deadly - nearly to the same amount of degree as in ''Brawl''.

Recent game patches have notably buffed Kirby. In update 1.0.6, his down throw gained an increased damage output, making it an effective move to rack up damage without having to render his up throw [[Stale-move negation|stale]]. His KOing ability was also improved, with his up and down smash attacks dealing more knockback and the latter being more effective if his down aerial is used to combo into it. Hammer Flip had its ending lag reduced, thus making it slightly less punishable as well. Update 1.1.0 brought about further buffs, with Inhale having its start-up lag reduced, which makes it more likely to suck in an opponent. The second jab now connects into his neutral infinite better and his jab finisher comes out quicker. Lastly, his forward throw now sets up opponents for combos better, which is something that is useful for Kirby as he previously lacked a throw he could combo into. Overall, these buffs have improved Kirby's punishing game and his issues with projectiles, but have not addressed his poor approaching game. Kirby has above average tournament representation with players like {{Sm|Poyo}} and others maining him, but his tournament results are overall poor.
