While different bracket shapes to denote a grouping is valid, it is uncommon. Symbolab and Wolfram|Alpha will translate it to parenthesis format while Desmos and Google will fail for one reason or another, such as treating square brackets as an interval

It's still coded as a separate object from Inkling, devs don't do that just because (e.g. why isn't Mario's cape its own object then). But either way you were right, it's the directness param that determines the shieldstun multiplier

By that logic Splat Roller is also a projectile. Being listed separately isn't what makes a move a projectile, it's if it becomes separated from the user after being summoned. Regardless, it's still true that indirect attacks are what reduce shieldstun
