Kirby and Peach, cloaked

Clear is a transformation in the Super Smash Bros. series that debuted in Super Smash Bros. Melee and has appeared in every subsequent game except Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

Clear fighters are invisible. Except in Super Smash Bros. Melee, if a clear fighter has a name, that name is not displayed.

Causes

In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Invisible Melee is one of the Special Melee game modes; in Invisible Melee, all fighters are permanently invisible. Clear is one of the rules that can be set in Special Smash, which causes all fighters to permanently be invisible.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee, in the Event Match Event 23: Slippy's Invention, the player has to defeat Fox and Falco on Venom, both of whom are invisible.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, in the Event Match Co-Op Event 6: Unwanted Suitors, two players—as Zelda and Zero Suit Samus—need to fight against invisible Luigi and Captain Falcon. To further conceal the identities of the fighters, they are not voiced, their portraits are blank, and they both use the Super Smash Bros. series symbol instead of their own series symbols.

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U's Smash Tour, Boo appears as a Smash Tour item, which causes the user to start a fight with similar effects to a Cloaking Device.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Spirit Battle conditions can cause the Puppet Fighter or all fighters to become temporarily or permanently invisible. If the primary fighter is always invisible, its name is prefixed with "Clear" on the Spirit Battle screen.

Origin

The Cloaking Device in Melee

The Cloaking Device item appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee. This item causes the user to become invisible, similar to the Clear transformation; however, unlike the clear transformation, a cloaked fighter is also immune to damage and their recoil damage is negated, but they still take any hitstun or knockback inflicted on them. The Cloaking Device comes from the Perfect Dark universe.
