Apex is an ongoing tournament series at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, that has attracted worldwide attention. Founded by Alex Strife, the Apex series started in 2009, mainly featuring Super Smash Bros. Brawl, along with its predecessors, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros., among other side games. In 2012, it also became an Evo/Evolution Qualifier event, leading to a massive MvC3 and SSF4 tournaments. Apex, specifically Apex 2012, hosted the largest Brawl tournament, the 2nd largest Melee tournament, the largest Smash 64 tournament, the largest All Brawl tournament, and had the most attendance of foreign players in a US tournament since OC3.
