A Smash Attack is done by "smashing" (tilting rapidly) the control stick and pressing A at the same time. A Smash Attack is usually the most powerful move in a characters arsenal, with the forward smash usually being the most powerful (in terms of KOing power). In SSBM, it can be charged by holding down A, then releasing when you want the attack to unleash. A smash can be charged for exactly 120 frames, or 2 seconds.

In SSBM, Smashes can also be performed by pressing the C-stick in any direction. Holding Z while pressing the C-stick results in charging the smash. Some forward smashes can be angled in the same way forward tilts are.

Smash Attacks include forward smash, down smash and up smash.
