Apex is an ongoing tournament series, held in New Jersey, that has attracted worldwide attention. Founded by Alex Strife, the Apex series started in 2009, mainly featuring Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. 64, among other side games. In 2012, it also became an Evo Qualifier event, leading to massive Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Super Street Fighter IV tournaments. Apex, specifically Apex 2012, hosted the largest Brawl tournament, the fifth-largest Melee tournament, the 3rd-largest Smash 64 tournament in the United States, the largest All Brawl tournament, and had the most attendance of foreign players in a US tournament since OC3. The tournament series has become the most important, influential, and prestigious tournament series in Smash.
