Essentially what they're saying is it wouldn't feel like "everyone is here" if the Trainer wasn't a character, and unlike Zelda/Sheik, the Trainer themself does not fight, in Brawl, so separating the character from the Pokémon isn't an option. undo

It's not impossible that they could've done a slightly similar approach to Project M by separating either Squirtle or Ivysaur (just like how Charizard was separated in Smash 4) and have the non-separated Mon remain with the Trainer, but they didn't. undo Tag: Undo
