User:TheNuttyOne/Smash 5 Prediction!

Well, we know the entire roster for Smash 4, so predictions for that are pointless- and it's never too early, right? :P

You can make edits to your prediction until the first Smash 5 character is confirmed (which may be a very long time, obviously). This should help pass the time though!

You can mostly use anything- a table, an image, or even just a dotted list. If you choose to use an image, make it a clear image so that it's easy to tell which character is which, and also include the names of each character somewhere on the roster.

Make a header with your username when you add your prediction, and... well, have fun! :P

RulesEdit

  1. There can be no more than 80 characters on your roster.
    • If you wish to bring back transformations, they only count as one character.
  2. Characters must be featured mainly in video games. This does not mean video games based off of TV or movies, rather TV or movies based off of video games. (So Ash Ketchum would be acceptable, but Mickey Mouse would not.)
  3. No more than 10 veterans may be cut.
    • Veterans that were cut in a previous game (such as Wolf or Snake) or DLC veterans (such as Mewtwo or Cloud) do not count as a cut character.
  4. Be creative and have fun!

Scoring SystemEdit

  • Correct Newcomer Prediction - 10 points. A correct newcomer prediction is when a newcomer on your prediction roster is confirmed to be in the game. Pretty straightforward.
  • Correct Veteran Prediction - 5 points. Like the above, but with veterans. Since it's pretty easy to predict this (I'm pretty sure Mario will return), it doesn't have as high a score as a correct newcomer prediction.
  • Semi-Correct Prediction - 3 points. This is when you predict a transformation character or a team character, but only one of them appear. (i.e. you predict Zelda/Sheik, but only Sheik is confirmed). You get the three points for each character (meaning if you predict Pokemon Trainer with Greninja, Chespin, and Braixen and they all appear separately, you get 9 points.) However, there is no penalty if only part of the character is confirmed (only Greninja appears, not Chespin and Braixen), you just only get 3 points. This same rule applies to if you predict two characters separately but they are confirmed as transformations or a team, even if you only guessed one of the characters. If you predict a team character and only one of them appears with the other as a costume (like Popo with Nana as a costume instead of Popo & Nana as the Ice Climbers), you do not get 6 points, only 3. If you guess a character as a costume but they are confirmed as a separate character (i.e. Daisy as a Peach costume), you do not get any bonus points and are charged with a missing prediction.
  • Incorrect Prediction - Minus 5 points. This is when a character on your roster is confirmed to not be in the game. Like how Chrom was highly speculated in Smash 4 but was confirmed to not be playable in the Lucina/Robin reveal trailer. Or how Ashley was confirmed to be an Assist Trophy. Those characters would have gotten you 5 points removed.
  • Missing Prediction - Minus 3 points. This is when a character is confirmed that wasn't on your roster (like how no one could've guessed Wii Fit Trainer (yet oddly everyone predicted Duck Hunt)). Since Sakurai often picks characters no one expected (Ice Climbers, R.O.B., WFT), it's reasonable for this to be slightly less of a deduction than the incorrect prediction.
  • Incomplete Roster - Minus 1 point. If the first character is confirmed for Sma5h and you have not completed your roster (and it contains things like "Gen 7/8 Pokemon", "New Series Characters", or "WIP"), you will automatically lose 1 point. Any vague predictions ("Gen 7/8 Pokemon", "New Series Character") have no deductions, but you will get a Missing Prediction deduction if your roster was not finished.

When SSB5 is released and all of the characters are confirmed, everyone's score will be added up and the winner will win... um, something. I'll decide that later. And if I win... well, I can't really give myself a prize, so that just means everyone loses I guess. Sigh.

Note that this competition is only for characters. Predictions on stages, alternate costumes, items, etc. are not considered part of the official competition, and therefore do not apply to your score.

NotesEdit
  • Bowser Jr., Duck Hunt, Wii Fit Trainer, and Dr. Mario are cut.
  • Mewtwo and Ice Climbers return.
  • Lucina and Dark Pit will be demoted to costumes of Marth and Pit, respectively.
  • Alph returns as a palette swap of Olimar, and Daisy becomes a palette swap of Peach.
  • Waluigi, Dixie Kong, either Midna or Ghirahim, and maybe Magalor and Tails are newcomers.

Characters from New SeriesEdit

  • Inkling (Splatoon)
    • A Splatoon Inkling has a pretty good chance in being in Smash 5 or 6, as I believe Splatoon is going to be a (relatively) well-selling game, and a representative would be nice.
  • Rayman (Rayman series)
    • If he can appear as a trophy in Smash 4, why not as a playable character in Smash 5 or 6?
  • Tempo (HarmoKnight)
    • Because why not? He seems like a good fighter choice, plus I played and enjoyed the game he's from, so, he's gonna be in Smash 5 or 6.
  • Balloon Fight (Balloon Fight)
    • A rumor stating that he was supposed to be in Smash 64 circulated, plus, we got Bowser Jr., so…

NewcomersEdit

Character Series Notes
Gen. VII or VIII rep. Pokémon Depends on which is newer at the time.
Ridley Metroid The argument "Ridley is too big" is the dumbest thing.
Slippy Star Fox I feel that Slippy is more important than Krystal or Peppy.
Agnès Bravely Bravely Default is pretty much a Nintendo game outside of Japan, with Nintendo publishing it. She has also been confirmed to be in Bravely Second, but I don't know what role she has, as I don't know Japanese.

ShinyRegice's predictions (1.0.0 at 12/20/2014)Edit

Yeah, obviously it's waaaaay too early to predict the roster for Smash 5, considering that the game probably will not be released before 2020 at the very least, we can expect a character reveal for... 2019 maybe? At this point it's pretty much impossible to make a convincing and plausible SSB5 roster without putting a lot of filler slots like "Gen VIII Pokémon", "New Starfox character", "Code Name S.T.E.A.M. rep", "Future series rep", etc. and we couldn't imagine a moveset for them anyway. Also look at the SSB4 newcomers, besides Duck Hunt and third-parties, they all have notable post-Brawl appearances.

For all those reasons, I'm not going to post a complete roster; instead I'll post an incomplete one, then I'll add more when new Nintendo games with standing out characters release.

Veterans reflectionEdit

Most of the characters in Smash 4 have strong staying power IMO, but a few ones could be axed if the next director thinks that they're not worth the hard work to put them into the game.

  • Rosalina is a cool addition, but I fear that she eventually becomes generic spinoff filler like Daisy and Waluigi. If she becomes a recurring character in future main Mario titles or even appears in some RPGs she becomes 100 % safe though. But overall I trust her staying power, the worst I realistically imagine for her is being demoted to unlockable.
  • Ike is one of the most notable lords from Fire Emblem, appearing in two titles, being the only lord in the series to not be of royal blood, and also being very popular, but he's not likely to return outside of spin-offs (SMTxFE) or like he did in Awakening as a spirit from the past (like a very high number of past FE characters did), and his "mercenary with a heavy sword" niche kinda overlaps with Shulk, who as the ambassador of the Xenoblade series is pretty safe IMO. His best chance to keep post-SSB4 relevancy is a Radiance games remake, which is something I'd LOVE to see come to real. Like Rosalina, I mostly imagine him demoted to unlockable.
  • Greninja was an extremely surprising addition to the roster, and arguably the most random character choice ever in the Smash history. Even Sakurai admited it himself, he choosed it for the sake of having a gen VI Pokémon character and because it was his favourite Pokémon from this new gen. I'm worried about Greninja's staying power; while Lucario stood the test of time, proving itself as pretty much the second mascot of the series while losing only to Pikachu, I'm dubtful about Greninja keeping its reputation as one of the most popular Pokémon and becoming a staple of the series. It's the only one I'm reasonably expecting to be cut, asides from maybe clones, and third-parties to a lesser extent. However, I hope that we won't get a Pokémon newcomer in SSB5, unless it's one who REALLY stands out and has staying power as a popular mascot.
  • I have no clue about the clone trinity.
  • Third-party characters are an important appeal for new Smash games, and we can reasonably expect at least one third-party newcomer for Smash 4, but it would be a shame to cut any third-party character currently in Smash to add others: Sonic is one of the most well-known gaming characters with a strong history behind him as Mario's previous rival, Mega Man has a great gaming legacy related to Nintendo as well as being pretty much the single gaming character the most adaptable to the Smash format, and Pac-Man is just too much of a gaming icon. If any of these is cut for anyone else, the next director is going to be heavily backlashed. The only thing I imagine against them are potential copyright issues, but overall I expect them to return.

For veterans not playable in Smash 4, I'm not really expecting most of them to return. Young Link, Pichu, Roy and Lucas have next to no shot IMO, being too much of derivatives of other fighters and overall weak as Nintendo characters. Squirtle and Ivysaur were unique but are too weak as Nintendo characters as well. Ice Climbers were causing technical difficulties for the 3DS version (and even possibly Wii U's 8-player Smash) and were outright cut without trying too much to make them possible to handle due to their series being very weak at representing Nintendo, their gaming legacy being behind and not even close to G&W, Duck Hunt and R.O.B. The only way I'm imagining them returning is if they get a new game like how Sakurai revived Kid Icarus. Wolf is a derivative of the other Starfox characters, but I could see him returning due to Starfox getting a revival for the next year, likely with a overhauled moveset inspired from source material from the future game(s?). Snake didn't return back for both being less famous than the other third-parties in Smash and for being more of a Playstation character than a Nintendo one at this point; Sakurai himself admited that he didn't plan to make him playable again from the start. For now I'll assume that none of them will return in Smash 5.

tl;dr The only veterans I'm reasonably expecting to be cut are Greninja and members of the clone trinity, but even then I want to see if Greninja stands the test of time and doesn't become just a "flavour of the month", and I really have no clue about the clones, they could go either way?

Newcomers reflectionEdit

I'm going to add newcomers only if they are accurate and specific characters (and not filler slots like "Character from [insert name here] series"), if I have an accurate idea of how they could work as playable characters, and what they could represent from their series or for Nintendo as a whole.

  • Captain Toad is the new rising star of the Mario universe and is IMO by far the best way to add a playable Toad in Smash. The Toad species itself always felt like an iconic filler for me, but I don't feel this for Captain Toad, as he's a character with definite role and interests, and he has great uniqueness potential with source material from his game and a weight-changing mechanic involving his backpack (like throwing items from it, but they eventually regenerate). And for the "He can't jump" argument, just either make a platform appearing under his feet to allow him to jump, or just flat-out ignore it, I don't see it as much as a big deal as Ridley's proportions. I see him as the most likely Smash 5 newcomer right now.
  • I could see Inkling from Splatoon as well, but I want to see if the series becomes particularly notable, because otherwise it could end up as how Golden Sun and Dillon's Rolling Western were treated in Brawl and Smash 4 respectively. At this point it seems that the series has actual potential to end up ad the next Pikmin or Xenoblade, and there's definitely enough source material to make Inkling unique as a fighter in Smash.

My roster (as of now)Edit

  • Everyone from Smash 4 including Mewtwo (and besides possibly Greninja/members of the clone trinity)
  • Captain Toad
  • Inkling (unsure)

And for everything else... I literally have no clue. I'll wait to see who appears and stands out in future Nintendo games, or becomes newly relevant, to add more characters.

NotesEdit

  • Bold depicts unlockable characters.
  • Squirtle and Ivysaur will be standalone characters.
  • Hawlucha was inspired by the Flying Man.
  • Spitball Sparky was a random notion, along with Glass Joe, Louie, Slippy, and Peppy.
  • Pichu deserves to be in Smash 4 due to my liking of Pikachu.
  • Wii Balance Board would be the funniest of the lot.
  • Mewtwo, Pichu, Ivysaur, Roy, and Wolf will return.
  • Rosalina & Luma and Dr. Mario will not come back.
  • Baby Bowser is not to be confused with Bowser Jr.
  • Nintendog and Ridley have to be sized down to make this odd list.

Aidanzapunk's Predictions (Version 2)Edit

Since a lot has changed in terms of my opinions towards Smash 4 and Smash 4 itself, I think I've got some newer ideas.

CharactersEdit

Cut CharactersEdit
  • Wii Fit Trainer: This one was an out-of-left-field pick.
  • Villager: See above.
NewcomersEdit
  • Professor Layton: This guy needs to be in. You could do so much with him. And he's had a lot of history with Nintendo.
  • Shadow the Hedgehog: For the record, he would NOT be a Sonic clone.
  • Isaac: Despite my opinions towards him, he's very popular.
  • Inkling: Because why the hell not.
  • Sora: I myself haven't played Kingdom Hearts, but I do enjoy characters from series I'm not familiar with.
  • Shovel Knight: I think it's kinda obvious at this point.

*insert obligatory King K. Rool vote here*

Previously Cut VeteransEdit
  • Ice Climbers: I know, Sakurai cut them because they had low priority over the rest of the cast, but still.
  • Snake: I swear, if he doesn't come back as DLC, then he should come back in Smash 5.
  • Wolf: Honestly, he's less of a clone of Fox than Luigi is of Mario. And he's very popular.

New stagesEdit

  • Monte d'Or: The sort of hub world from Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask. Miracle Mask was my first Layton game, and if Layton got in, this would have to be his stage.
  • Starlight Carnival: The third world from Sonic Colors. Colors is my favorite Sonic game, and you could totally make a moving stage out of this.

BeepYou's roster predictionsEdit

I'm doing this for fun, it's just the roster I would want in the next game, not trying to really predict and win.

  •   Dr. Mario: Unlockable.
  •   Luigi: Unlockable.
  •   Peach

Wii FitEdit
  •   Wii Fit Trainer
Xenoblade ChroniclesEdit
  •   Shulk: More lively and smiling in his taunts (except down taunt) and victory poses. Unlockable.
SonicEdit
  •   Sonic: Unlockable.
Mega ManEdit
  •   Mega Man: He has some voice clips from Mega Man: Powered Up and is voiced by the same VA, Cole Howard. Blast KO sound changed to the "life lost" sound from Mega Man 3 onward.
Street FighterEdit
  •   Ryu: He now smiles lightly in his "Your range is one fist short" victory pose.
Pac-ManEdit
  •   Pac-Man: Using his Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures design (sorry Massive Hero Soccer Guy). His Star KO sound is now the "life lost" sound from the original Pac-Man (which only appears in StreetSmash). Still no voice.
Final FantasyEdit
  •   Cloud: Unlockable.
BayonettaEdit
  •   Bayonetta: It depends: if she is way too OP in SSB4, then she gets nerfed depending on the OP level.
Special charactersEdit
  •   Mii Brawler
  •   Mii Swordfighter
  •   Mii Gunner

Previously cut veteransEdit

Star FoxEdit
PokémonEdit
  •   Pichu: Heavily buffed tho. Still recoil damage but less than before, and more power than Pikachu. Unlockable.
Ice ClimberEdit
  •   Ice Climbers
Metal GearEdit
  •   Snake: Unlockable.

NewcomersEdit

Donkey KongEdit
  •   Dixie Kong: Semi-clone of Diddy but she doesn't have the Banana Peel as her down special, it gets replaced by a different move that I'm too lazy to think of. Weaker than Diddy, but faster mobility. Almost the same frame data. Unlockable.
  •   King K. Rool: Yep.
MetroidEdit
  •   Ridley: Shrunken down, semi-clone of Charizard as it can jump three times, fly and glide, and has some attacks taken from him. However, it is almost as heavy as DK. Poor frame data to compensate, though only to the extent of Charizard. Slightly less damaging attacks and some of them are different so it can be considered a semi-clone.
The Legend of ZeldaEdit
Kid IcarusEdit
  •   Viridi: A deity made it into Smash Bros. Now a smaller deity does as well, but with faster moves (different ones that don't make her a clone of Palutena). Unlockable.
KirbyEdit
  •   Bandanda Waddle Dee
  •   Prince Fluff: Unlockable.
Star FoxEdit
  •   Krystal: Moveset inspired from Palutena in some regards, but faster in all aspects.
PokémonEdit
  •   Igglybuff: Maybe I lost my mind, but I want a more mobile but frailer and slightly weaker clone of Jiggs. Unlockable.
  •   Sceptile: He deserves to be in if we're not getting Ivysaur. Unlockable.
SonicEdit
  •   Tails: Unlockable. Why not? :]
Mega ManEdit
  •   Proto Man: Unlockable. Voiced by his Mega Man: Powered Up VA, Jonathan Love. A frailer but more mobile semi-clone of Mega Man that uses his mechanics from Mega Man 9 and 10, with some different attcks:
    • Neutral attack/Forward tilt/Neutral aerial: Proto Buster - Only fires twice instead of once, slightly longer range.
    • Up tilt: Same as Mii Gunner
    • Down tilt: Charge Kick - More powerful but laggier.
    • Up smash: Laser Trident
    • Down smash: Chill Spike - Ice effect instead of flame, faster with slightly less power.
    • Forward aerial: Triple Blade - Slashes three times instead of once, electric effect instead of flame, sword glows green (like Zero's Z-Saber) then fades to purple after attacking (like the original Triple Blade). More similar to Meta Knight's forward aerial.
    • Up aerial: Tornado Blow - Three tornadoes instead of one, giving it more horizontal range, but it has less vertical range and as a result inflicts less damage with knockback compensated.
    • Grab aerial/Grab: Thunder Claw - Similar to Samus' Grapple Beam.
    • Neutral special: Shadow Blade - Due to the game having no customs, Proto Man receives Mega Man's custom move as a special of his own.
    • Side special: Ice Slasher - Same as neutral special.
    • Up special: Tornado Hold - Same as previous specials.
    • Down special: Jewel Sattelite - Same function as Skull Barrier but with a x1.4 multiplier and inflicts 2% damage for each jewel, like Mega Man's Leaf Shield.
    • Final Smash: Proto Zero Attack - He teams up with Zero and they attack the opponent. Similar startup as Pair Up, similar cutscene as Chain Attack.
BattletoadsEdit
  •   Rash: Doesn't have a voice, but his Star KO sound is that of a low-pitched croak.
RaymanEdit
  •   Rayman: Unlockable.

DLC newcomersEdit

The Legend of ZeldaEdit
Kingdom HeartsEdit
Special charactersEdit
  •   Mii Wizard

Cut characters that later return as DLC veteransEdit

Kid IcarusEdit
  •   Palutena: Autoreticle and Reflect Barrier get replaced by Explosive Flame and Super Speed respectively. She gets catastrophically buffed in frame data, aerial mobility and damage, so her frame data is much more balanced (but not to Mario or Sheik levels), and her damage output is as high as Luigi's. She originally gets cut due to the game's abscence of custom moves for other characters that aren't Miis. (yep, just because of that reason). Originally only mentioned in her trophy.

I would put an image of a roster but the roster maker won't open for me. So that's it then. --  The 70's called. They said BeepYou was here :v 14:58, 19 December 2015 (EST)

Nintenzilla's PredictionsEdit

Basically, I predict the roster to look something like this,

g0Re0Z4.png

Cut CharactersEdit

Due to their overall controversy, Dark Pit and Lucina are made into costumes, while Dr. Mario is kept for being the clone with the strongest following (Ironically).

Feedback is also welcome. Nintenzilla (talk) 13:38, 12 January 2016 (EST)

The Luigi Master's PredictionsEdit

I might make a fancy chart or something at some point, but for now I'll just keep it simple

VeteransEdit

All characters in SSB4, including the DLC characters, return, except for the following:

  • Dr. Mario (Who is now an Alt Costume for Mario)
  • Lucina (Who is now an Alt Costume for Marth)
  • Dark Pit (Who is now an Alt Costume for Pit)

Returning From Melee or BrawlEdit

The following characters have returned after being cut from Brawl

  • Wolf (Who is heavier and stronger, and, other than his Blaster, has different specials)
  • Ice Climbers (Who now appear as 2 characters but function as 1, kind of like Duck Hunt. They still hit separately, however, so you have to make sure to line them up correctly for massive damage)
  • Snake (Who plays same, but his inclusion is dependent solely upon Konami's status as a company)

NewcomersEdit

  • Captain Toad (We need some kind of Toad character to finish the Big 4 from SSB2, and Captain Toad would be pretty unique: a small character that has difficulty jumping, but packs a huge punch)
  • Waluigi (Actually, I think the fact that he's spin-off exclusive can work to his advantage: he could integrate different things from various Mario spin-offs to have a Villager-style, wacky, unorthodox moveset)
  • King K. Rool (...meh, I don't really get the hype for this guy. I only added him on here because he's suddenly really popular)
  • Impa (Pretty much the last major Zelda character not already in the game)
  • Lana (She may have been in 1 spin-off title, but I think a true Mage-type character would be pretty sweet)
  • Gardevoir (Probably the most popular Gen 3 Pokemon, and her Fairy typing could make for an interesting psychic/magic based moveset)
  • (Some Pokemon from Gen 7 or 8. As for which one...well, we'll find out when they come)
  • Ridley (Shrunk down, but still the largest character in the game. He would have amazing reach, power, movement, and air speed, but garbage frame data, and obviously a ridiculously large hitbox)
  • Sylux (I don't know too much about this guy, but he's slated to have some kind of major role in a future Metroid game, so he could join in if he's a big enough deal)
  • Viridi (We NEED a plant/grass-based character, and Viridi would be perfect for the role)
  • (New Fire Emblem character. Like Pokemon, this is one we'll just have to wait and see for)
  • Bandana Dee (Round out the Return to Dreamland quartet. He probably wouldn't be super unique moveset-wise, but still, no other character wields a spear)
  • Elma (with Xenoblade Chronicles X seemingly being a huge hit, I don't think it's too much of a stretch)
  • Balloon Fighter (A classic along the lines of Duck Hunt and R.O.B., he would be a pretty hilarious inclusion)
  • Isaac (It's Golden Sun's time to shine! I think, like Corrin, he could use his sword for basic attacks, and use his earth-bending skills for his more powerful attacks)
  • Sami (I think she best represents the universe, more so than Andy. Plus, if Snake is a no-go, she could just adopt his moveset to cover the loss)
  • Marshal (despite being a pretty niche character, even for Smash standards, a Rhythm-based fighter could be pretty interesting)
  • Inkling (Splatoon is a HUGE hit, plus their Ink gimmick could translate will into Smash: every move uses ink, and you refill by turning into a squid with Down B. A character that is strong, but has to keep periodically charging to stay that way, would pretty awesome)

And last but not least...

  • Captain N (I know, he's technically a TV Show character, but he's still Nintendo, and I think he could do an amazing job representing the various Nintendo console/controllers/accessories over the years in his moves. Besides, R.O.B. is a toy and Mr. G&W isn't even really a character. It's not TOO farfetched. ...OK, yeah, it's pretty farfetched, but a man can dream!)

Cuts from Smash 4Edit

  • Wii Fit Trainer
  • Dr. Mario (now as a Mario alternate)
  • Dark Pit (now as a Pit alternate)
  • Lucina (now as a Marth alternate)

Characters for Smash 5Edit

  • Mario
  • Luigi (Now faster than Mario but lighter, also jumps a little bit higher. Has a more Luigi's Mansion inspired moveset, raher tha beeing a Mario semi-clone)
  • Peach (Slightly buffed from smash 4)
  • Daisy (As a Peach Semi-Clone)
  • Rosalina & Luma
  • Yoshi
  • Captain Toad (Unique in the sense that he has two movesets, one in which he is with his backpack, thus he is extremely heavy and can't jump and the other in wich he is very light and agile, without his backpack, but has trouble killing)
  • Baby Mario & Baby Luigi (Both controlled by the player, when on of the bros. gets KOed it only respawns when the other dies, Unlike Brawl's Ice Climbers, tere is no "leader")
  • Bowser (Slightly buffed)
  • Bowser jr. (Significantly buffed)
  • Kamek
  • King Boo (Unique beacause of his moveset consisting of deploying Boos at the cost of his weight and size. Boos movement and attacks are commanded by King Boo, like how Rosalina controls Luma. He can reabsorb Boos but increasing his percentage as much as the percentage the Boo he absorbed had, Boos alone are extremely light (15 weight). King Boo's smash relies on Luigi's mansion's series ghosts. And are stronger if there are less Boos deployed. Whn boos are KOed they never respwn, rather, King Boo deos at his full weight. His Side Special deploys a Boo in his front and his Down Special recalls the Boo that is closer. His up special deals no damage and makes him vanish and reappear in the closest ledge, when reappears, he pushes opponents away but deals no damage. His neutral special triggers all Boos to attack by vanishing and reappiring near the opponent, acting as a KO move)
  • Wario (Significanly buffed)
  • Waluigi (With a brand new moveset Waluigi is a quick but light newcomer)
  • Nabbit (Very fast but also really light. Fits the hit and run archetype)
  • Donkey Kong (Signifanctly buffed)
  • Diddy Kong
  • Dixie Kong (Using her hair and guitar to attack, she provides an amazing recovery with her hair and an absurd ranged command grab)
  • Cranky Kong (A DK semi-clone, is even slower but deals more damage. Has a better recovery using cannons and he throws barrels as a projectile that can break through reflectors, regardless of being slow)
  • Funky Kong (Another DK semi-clone, using some different moves)
  • King K. Rool (Slow and heavy, but still a threat)
  • Fox
  • Falco (Slighly buffed)
  • Wolf (Returns as a veteran from Brawl and slighlty buffed)
  • Krystal
  • Kirby (Slightly buffed)
  • King Dedede (Significantly buffed)
  • Meta Knight
  • Waddle Dee
  • Little Mac
  • Link (Slightly buffed)
  • Toon Link (Now with a more unique moveset, rather than being a semi-clone of Link)
  • Midna & Wolf Link (Both characters share a hurtbox, and are really fast)
  • Ravio (Uses the items he sells to Link in his arsennal and controls Speerow the same way Rosalina controls Luma. Instead of having a regular shield, he merge into a painting and can stay there until a purple bar wears out, making him shield stunned. When rolling he walks from a painting to another, even though it is slow the move is very safe, when airdodging the also enters the painting)
  • Zelda (Heavily buffed)
  • Sheik (Slightly nerfed)
  • Toon Zelda (She acts as a Zelda semi-clone, having little differences on her moveset)
  • Tetra
  • Ganondorf
  • Toon Ganondorf (Ganondorf's semi-clone)
  • Vaati
  • Skull Kid
  • Samus (Slightly buffed)
  • Dark Samus (Has a very unique moveset, but is as slow as Samus)
  • Zero Suit Samus (Slightly nerfed)
  • Pit (Slightly buffed)
  • Palutena (Significantly buffed)
  • Viridi
  • Marth
  • Ike (Slightly buffed)
  • Corrin (Slightly buffed)
  • Robin (Slightly buffed)
  • Roy
  • Ness
  • Lucas (Significantly buffed)
  • Captain Falcon (Slightly buffed)
  • Ice Climbers (veterans from Brawl, slightly nerfed, now working similarly to Baby Mario and Luigi, where both are controled by the player)
  • Duck Hunt
  • Mr. Game and Watch
  • Excitebiker
  • Pikachu
  • Charizard (Heavily buffed)
  • Greninja (Heavily nerfed... jk, he is buffed SIGNIFICANTLY)
  • Sceptile
  • Gardevoir
  • Lucario
  • Zoroark
  • Plusle & Minun (work similarly to the baby bros., but one cannot recover without the other)
  • Machamp
  • Gengar
  • Jigglypuff (Slightly buffed)
  • Scizor
  • Hawlucha
  • Floette-Eternal
  • Mewtwo (Heavily buffed)
  • Villager (Can be customized like the Miis)
  • Isabelle
  • Olimar
  • Chorus Kids (Share a hurtbox)
  • Inkling (Can be customized like the Miis)
  • R.O.B. (Significantly buffed)
  • Sonic (SLightly nerfed)
  • Mega Man
  • Pac-Man
  • Rayman
  • Ryu
  • Cloud
  • Bayonetta (Significantly nerfed [Diddy style])
  • Miis (Swordfighter and gunner are slightly buffed)

Additional Information/speculationEdit

Given the developers have more time, I feel Toon Link and Dr. Mario will be the first to be added, followed by new clones or semi-clones, such as Daisy. Given the developers have less time, I feel Roy will be first to be cut, followed by Lucas.

If they do have DLC and Roy and Lucas were cut, they will be the first veterans with a shot, followed by Wolf, Squirtle and Ivysaur. Newcomers for DLC are most likely to be 3rd party that couldn't be added through normal means, as with Smash 4 DLC

It is possible that Sheik's moveset will instead go to Impa in favor of series relevance, though with Sheik being a fan favorite, it's not likely.

Palutena may be cut due to a variety of factors, some of which include lack of games in the series, lack of popularity, and whether or not they keep custom moves. For the most part, I kept her due to being a unique moveset

It is possible that a new Fire Emblem lord may be added in favor of Robin and/or Corrin, but it's hard to predict at this point in time

In addition, I leave one newcomer off the list. This is most likely a retro/wtf character, but as Sakurai is a man that is anything but predictable, there is no way to pinpoint it exactly. Possibilities include:

  • Exitebiker
  • Takamaru
  • Reckless Wiimote guy
  • Jibanyan
  • Ray MKIII
  • Lana (HW)
  • An indie third-party character, such as Frisk or Shantae
  • A character created specifically for this series. As an example, I am using Master Hand Jr.

(I am not saying all of these characters may get in, probably only one)

This will bring my total character count from between 72 and 80 characters in the base game (counting all mii fighters separately). With that, I bid you good day, sirs.

ReasoningEdit

So why did I cut Lucina? Unlike every other clone, she is a clone of a clone (minus Wolf and Young Link, but I'd revamp them and Dark Pit) and we already have representation of her game in Robin. I put in K.rool due to fan support, Isaac due to the same and my support, Saki because he's supposedly popular in Japan and he's been my #1 wish since Brawl, Ricky because he can be the joke character, Alexandra because she'd be unique I guess? I don't know, I'd like to see it though. Takamaru because he was supposed to be in Smash 4, Inklings because Splatoon is popular, Spring Man to support ARMS and he's the face of it, Kazuya because Namco needs a second rep and Street Fighter X Tekken 2 would be cool (assuming Tekken X Street Fighter doesn't release before this), Crash because he's a popular platforming icon and was on Nintendo post original trilogy, Travis because he's getting a new Switch game and Ubisoft needs a rep and a wrestler with a beam katana is cool, Shovel Knight because he's the most popular indie choice with his own Amiibo, and the 2 Mii types because they are popular ideas. Anna because Fire Emblem doesn't need a character except the one who's been there since Gaiden. Anna is DLC.

Nyargle's predictionEdit

Why not? If TNO decides it's too late, I'll take the minus one.

The Pokemon is Decidueye, the Fire Emblem character is specifically the main protagonist of Fire Emblem Switch (if this isn't specific enough, I'll swap it out), and the newcomer is Face Raider. Have a few notes:

  • Bowser Jr. has circumstances close enough to characters like Mewtwo post-Melee and Wolf for me to consider him an unsafe bet.
  • Corrin will no longer have the appeal of being the newest FE lord.
  • Face Raider is actually among the most likely newcomers IMO because it's the most Sakurai pick possible (totally random but actually makes some sense given the game's proliferation; think Wii Fit Trainer). Plus, I came up with a moveset on my Smash 5 ideas page, so devs paid to do it could come up with one, too.
  • Minecraft has the sales, is as iconic a series as Mega Man and maybe even Sonic at this point, represents the historic indie movement, and has Nintendo editions that are popular in Japan.
  • Crash had a game on the GameCube, so a Nintendo release was never a hurdle.
  • Sylux apparently has more importance now, avoids the "three Samuses" issue, and isn't too big according to Sakurai. The ideal Metroid rep.
  • Isabelle is everywhere and unarguably the most popular Animal Crossing character now.
  • The only retro candidate that might be surprising at this point to fans is a Famicom Fairytales character. I like these ones.
  • If Inklings weren't added as DLC, Spring Man won't be playable in the base game.
