Niconico Tokaigi 2016 was an invitational Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament held in Chiba, Japan in January 2016, which featured six Japanese players and one international player, Nairo. In addition to the tournament itself, Masahiro Sakurai made a special appearance and gave the competitors an early preview of Corrin, Bayonetta, and Umbra Clock Tower several days before their public release as downloadable content; the specific release date was announced during the tournament itself.
