A spike is an an attack that sends the opponent down and which cannot be meteor-recovered. Falcon's dair is not a spike, neither is Samus dair. Not even Ganondorf's. With these moves, the downwards trajectory can be cancelled by pressing "jump" or "up+b" at the right time. The rest of the moves have attacks of similar effect, with varying efficiency.
