Battle of the Dark Sides is the 7th co-op event match of 21 in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Player 1 controls Link, while Player 2 controls Samus. This is the same as the solo event Dark Link Duel, only now Samus is on Link's team and Dark Samus is on Dark Link's team. Each player has 200 HP of stamina. The event is completed by dropping both the CPU's stamina to 0 HP.

Notes

  • This event alludes to Dark Link, whom is a boss/mini-boss in the Legend of Zelda series, and Dark Samus, who is the main antagonist of the Metroid Prime series.
  • The Dark Samus in Battle of the Dark Sides is not the Dark Samus that appears in her respective series. In Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Dark Samus is a black, sometimes blue, skeletal version of Samus' Varia Suit, with clawed fingers and skeletal feet, which also appears as a trophy and a sticker in Brawl. The other version of Dark Samus from Metroid Prime 3: Corruption resembles a Phazon imitation of the Light Suit from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.
    • But also, in the 100% ending to Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime (the antagonist of the first game) also takes control of Samus's stolen Phazon suit and becomes Dark Samus as shown when an eye pops up from the Phazon Suit's left gauntlet, so the Dark Samus in Battle of the Dark Sides would also allude to the ending of Metroid Prime in the form of what would most likely be Metroid Prime (as Dark Samus) in the Phazon Suit from Metroid Prime before completely fusing with the Phazon Suit and changing its appearance entirely to resemble Dark Samus from Echoes, but with a silhouette appearance.
  • The Dark Link in the event, while not featuring the Dark Link palette swap that the standard Link has, resembles the final boss of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
