This article is about the smasher known as Axe. For the similarly-named smasher, see Ax.

Axe is a smasher from Sierra Vista, Arizona, who currently lives in Avondale, Arizona. He primarily mains Pikachu, being considered the best Melee Pikachu player in the world, and also uses Falco, Young Link, and Fox at a professional level. He also plays Pikachu in Project M. Since his first national in 2009, GENESIS, Axe's play with Pikachu has caused a lot of attention, as he has placed in the top eight of large nationals several times and has beaten many of the best players in the world with primarily Pikachu, and he is widely credited for Pikachu's movement up the tier list, changing from a mid-low tier character to a solid mid-high tier character. Axe is currently ranked 1st on the Arizona Melee Power Rankings.

He has frequently teamed with players such as V3ctorman, one of the best known Yoshi players, and OkamiBW, a professional Sheik player. It is a joke within the Arizona and California Smash communities that there needs to be a tournament match to decide the best person named Jeff - SilentSpectre or Axe.

History

Axe became known for managing to take sets off of many top players using what was usually considered a mid-low tier character, such as Jman at GENESIS, Dr. PeePee at Pound 4, DaShizWiz at Apex 2010, and Hax at Pound V. In this time, he even managed to play closer sets against players such as Armada. Over time, Axe maintained his high placings, though he didn't make too many significant impacts, usually missing top 8 at nationals.

In 2014, Axe managed to take 5th place at MLG Anaheim 2014 after reaching the championship pools from the open bracket. In his group, he defeated Colbol, Hax, Remen, s0ft, and even Mew2King, pulling a 3-2 comeback against the latter. He also barely lost 2-3 against PPMD. In the championship bracket, Axe also managed to knock out Hungrybox 3-1 in losers' eighths, before losing to Mew2King 0-3 in a rematch in losers' quarters.

Axe proceeded to place 5th at EVO 2014. In round 2 of pools, he defeated HugS, J666, and ChuDat 2-0, before losing to Mango 1-2 in a set that went down to the last stock. In losers' bracket, he eliminated Plup 2-0 to make it into top 8. He then proceeded to eliminate Silent Wolf 2-1 in losers' top 8, including a 4-stock in game 3 that took only 55 seconds to complete, before being eliminated 1-2 by Armada in loser's quarters in a set that went down to the last stock.
