Snake (スネーク, Snake) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Rather than Kiefer Sutherland, who voiced his predecessor in the Metal Gear Solid V series, David Hayter confirmed on Twitter that he would be reprising his role as Snake.

Changes from Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Aesthetics

  • Change Snake retains his design from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which in turn is based off Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. However, his body suit appears less form-fitting than before, and his overall appearance appears to be more detailed: Most notably, his hair, facial hair and his bandana which now has more noticeable creases, particularly above his brow. Conversely, his rear appears to be reduced, similarly to Zero Suit Samus's bust.
  • Change Snake has refined animations for many of his moves.
  • Change Snake's series symbol has changed from the FOX logo to the well-known "!" Alert exclamation mark seen in Metal Gear Solid games.
  • Change Snake has two additional costumes, bringing his total up to 8. Like in Brawl, these costumes resemble camouflage worn by Naked Snake in Metal Gear Sold 3: Snake Eater. One is a pure black costume resembling the Black Camouflage. The other is a lighter green costume resembling the Leaf Camouflage.
  • Change Snake has a new victory animation. He does a spin kick, a side kick, and then finishes with a pose.

Ground attacks

  • Nerf Up tilt now shows a trail to visualize its once-deceptively large hitbox. Its horizontal range and knockback seems to have been reduced regardless.
  • Nerf Forward tilt is much weaker, doing around 13.6% when both hits connect.
  • Change Snake’s previous down smash has been changed into a double-sided kick.

Aerial attacks

  • Buff Neutral aerial is slightly faster and has less ending lag.
  • Buff Forward aerial is slightly faster.

Throws/other attacks

  • Buff Up throw has increased followup potential.

Special attacks

  • Change Hand Grenades are much larger.
  • Buff Remote Missile travels faster.
  • Change Remote Missile uses a different sound when preparing to fire a missile.
  • Change C4 now emits a flashing red light for a few seconds after being placed, making it more visible.
  • Change Snake now remains crouched when detonating C4 from a crouching position.
  • Change Snake has a new currently unnamed Final Smash. It involves him marking opponents with a crosshair, before calling an airstrike on the marked victims.
