There are a few noticeable changes in the city's terrain, marking obvious battle areas. One such difference, are the new platforms mounted on either side of the Shine Gate. It is also believed that players can battle on Fruit Street, the fruit boat, and the bell towers. This is just speculation and will be proved soon. Also it should be noted, that the on flying platform seen [http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage02/stage02_070601b-l.jpg here] there is a dolphin-shaped "paint splatter"-like pattern, fitting to the "dolphin" theme of the area. This has led to some speculation as to the possibility of Bowser Jr. and/or Shadow Mario as a playable character, as he was responsible for the paint splatters in Super Mario Sunshine, though no official word has been released in this regard. The Pianta Statue in the frontal area has also been removed, probably to make for a more feasible fighting space.

A bird's eye view of the stage.

Delfino Plaza (Japanese: ドルピックタウン, Dorupikkutaun ) is a confirmed stage for SSBB, being based on the main central "hub" of Super Mario Sunshine (comparable to Princess Peach's Castle in Super Mario 64). Players battle on a floating platform, which then drops the characters off at a certain location before picking them up again and transporting them to another location, essentially touring them around the area. It is unknown if it will enter other areas from the game past the main plaza, such as Pinna Park, a theme park which was not on the main hub in the game.

Also it should be noted, that the on flying platform seen here there is a dolphin-shaped "paint splatter"-like pattern, fitting to the "dolphin" theme of the area.
