Re: Spirit Battle inspiration

"I don't exactly hear those complaints from the other Spirit pages that I've done with Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Game & Watch, R.O.B, and PAC-MAN." As I've learned myself the hard way, a lack of complaints does not necessarily equate to approval; someone may still voice opposition later down the line, and today that voice is mine. In the case of Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong, the lists of Spirit Battles are long enough that I haven't had the time to go through them and pick out what does or does not work; Metroid is simply the one that I got around to checking out today.

In the forum discussion leading to the addition of Spirit Battle inspiration, the addition of highly speculative "inspiration" was brought up as a potentially major concern. Prior to your edits, most inspiration added to these pages tended to be clear references; tenuous connections or long-reached stretches are frowned upon and are often removed when noticed by other editors. However, your edits try to justify every single detail in the Spirit Battle, often to the point of making vague connections that occasionally do not make sense. For example, "The Attack Power ↑ is a reference to the Parasite Queen's main method of attack by firing a laser from its mouth." How is this a reference? The Parasite Queen's mouth laser doesn't boost its attack power in Metroid Prime. In another instance, you claim that the Geemer battle's "third battle condition is a reference and a joke on the Geemers being an evolutionary offshoot of the Zoomers", which is just plainly a silly stretch to make. These are just two of many examples you've added. Just like with alternate costumes, it is not our job to find possible inspiration for every detail in the spirit battles; just to state those that are clear and obvious enough.

You also completely ignored me when I stated that some of your edits are factually incorrect and contain errors. For example, the inspiration column originally stated that Geemers are found in Brinstar in Metroid, explaining the stage and music choices. You changed this to state that the stage and music reference the Geemer's debut in Metroid Prime, which is completely false (Brinstar isn't in Metroid Prime, the Brinstar music isn't in Metroid Prime, and Geemers didn't debut in Metroid Prime). Similarly, you changed Kraid's inspiration to say that the music and stage reference his Super Metroid appearance, when the Brinstar Depths music isn't in Super Metroid at all. These are not the only errors you've made, but you reinstated them all when you reverted my edit.

Furthermore, your writing style simply bloats the column. You add a lot of unnecessary extra wording that doesn't add much. For example, do we really need to say "choice" in nearly every single bullet, or specify "the choice of" a particular puppet fighter, when it would be more concise just to drop that word/phrase altogether? And then there are details that aren't necessary; for example, we don't need to go into detail about how X Parasites are parasitic organisms that absorb memories, kill their hosts, and are enhanced to become Nightmare when none of those details are represented in the Spirit Battle. Just stick to what is necessary. Less is more. And believe me, I have a tendency to write a lot more than necessary!

This is why I reverted most of your edits to the Metroid Spirits page (however, please keep in mind that I did keep the additions that I thought would work to the page's benefit). Speculation, errors, and bloated wording are not constructive to SmashWiki and have been grounds for reverted edits plenty of times in the past. So please, do not undo my edit again. I do not want this to become an edit war. --PeabodySam (talk) 22:04, February 5, 2020 (EST)

Fine. You can take out the excessive unnecessary "inspirations" if they're too bloated, and you can tone it down for anyone else all you want. Maybe if we even worked together about how to present these "inspirations" so they're short and sweet, but also detailed before, then we would prevent the precipice of an editing war. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Autismo555 (talkcontribs) 10:38, 6 February 2020 (EST)

List of Spirits

What are you editing in the spirit list pages? SonDanielAn icon for my signature.A signature head icon. (talk page) 17:25, May 18, 2020 (EDT)

PeabodySam and I discussed the Spirit Battle inspirations columns. When I read up on the Spirit Battle placements in the World of Light, it seemed less clustered and bloated,so I decided to use that.Autismo555 (talk) 17:27, May 18, 2020 (EDT)
How can I help? SonDanielAn icon for my signature.A signature head icon. (talk page) 17:29, May 18, 2020 (EDT)
That's very thoughtful of you, but I have it all handled. Thank you for the offer.Autismo555 (talk) 17:32, May 18, 2020 (EDT)
