Ac2k's wiki tip: Don't immediately archive a discussion that you just commented on and think that it's resolved. Archives are really annoying to undo, it makes it harder for people to view it, and it prevents others from commenting on it; even if you think it's resolved, others may still want to add something to it. Wait at least a day before archiving it so everybody can see it easily.

Who am I?

The Smash series is definitely one of my favorite games. I got Brawl in December 2009, over a year after Brawl's release. My sisters and I all played Kirby and we all spammed special moves like a lot of noobs do. I eventually learned to press the attack button, and then shield and grab and stuff like that. Over the years I've switched my mains to characters such as Link, Mario, Yoshi, Sonic, Ness, and Pokémon Trainer, though I still maintained a casual mindset while playing all of these characters. When I joined the wiki, I played Meta Knight all the time, but I stopped after learning that the community perceived him as broken. I then picked up Kirby again, and he was the first character I played utilizing that character's advanced techniques and understanding their metagame. I used techniques such as his forward throw combos and back air camping instead of the special spam that I'd used years earlier. I also picked up Falco and tried to use his advanced techniques such as the short hop laser and DACUS. I eventually stopped playing Kirby as much due to his flaws as a character, in particular his awful approach options, and picked up King Dedede and Meta Knight. Falco and Meta Knight became my mains and I sometimes used King Dedede and Kirby. I now go King Dedede as much as possible and he's my favorite character to play, and I don't use Meta Knight and Kirby as much. I no longer enjoy playing Falco as I have very poor technical skill, so I don't use him at all. Marth is now a secondary of mine, and I also enjoy playing a wide variety of other characters. I also got Melee in 2012 and I play Marth. I initially didn't really like Melee because I didn't think that heavy combos should be in a Smash game, but I now prefer Melee to Brawl and find competitive Melee matches to be more exciting than Brawl matches. Falco, Pikachu, and Marth are currently my favorite characters in Melee, and while I can perform combos such as Falco's shine to utilt/dtilt/dair combos at a decent level, I'm not very good at the Melee-specific ATs yet. I'm still better at Brawl but I probably won't play it as much anymore.

I've never been to an actual tournament before, and the only practice I've had is against level 9 CPUs, my sisters (who never shield or dodge), Wi-Fi players on Team Battle, and SmashWiki users. My tech skill is very poo and I frequently button mash my attacks. However, I can consistently perform a DACUS, as well as a bunch of other useless techniques such as the pivot walk (aka the Derp Walk or the Keitaro Walk). I've noticed I'm surprisingly good at powershielding projectiles (nowhere near Vex's level though), and that I can make some good reads on player habits such as through reactions and tech-chases.

I downloaded Balanced Brawl in early 2013 because I was interested in the idea of a Brawl where all the characters were perfectly balanced. However, I ended up not liking it because I feel that the changes they made aren't enough to make every matchup even and every character balanced. When I removed the mod data from the SD card, I must have accidentally messed up some important things on it, and now I can't play any Stage Builder stage without the game crashing. I might try playing PM later if I can my SD card fixed.

  • Recategorize all the images, Terms, Attacks, and Redirects
  • Standardize all the character pages, add correct templates

Brawl competency chart

This chart shows how well I play all of the characters in Brawl. I ranked them based on how comfortable I feel playing the character, how well I know and use the character's playstyle and advanced techniques, and how much I enjoy playing the character. The chart is much more accurate farther up than near the bottom. This is only a correlation between how high the character is and how much I use them, and the chart does not always reflect that I use one character more than another because they're higher-ranked.

Conny SnakeHeadSSBB.pngMarthHeadSSBB.png

A user who has been helping out with images on the wiki. He was the first player I brawled on the wiki (March 2013), along with ToastUltimatum, and he mains Snake, with Marth as a secondary. The matches we played with Toast were all 3-way matches, but when Toast was eliminated, most of matches were last-hit victories by Conny's Snake against my King Dedede. He's very good at using Snake, especially his Grenades, and can consistently perform DACUS, among other things. However, his defensive game is poor, and he rarely shields, dodges, or does anything to avoid sustaining damage. I was able to use this to my advantage in later matches, such as by spamming Final Cutter to rack up damage. He also spams f-smash a lot, which leaves him open for punishment when he doesn't hit. I believe I could do better against him in a 1v1. You can see footage of our matches with Toast here.

ToastUltimatum ToonLinkHeadSSBB.pngMarioHeadSSBB.pngCaptainFalconHeadSSBB.pngRandomHeadSSBB.png-1

A user who, along with Conny, was the first player I brawled online (March 2013). He mains Toon Link and Mario, but when we played, he used a bunch of other characters. Most of our matches were three-way, with Toast or Conny usually emerging as the victor. In the three 1v1 matches we had, I was able to defeat his Ganondorf with my Kirby, and the other two were narrow one-stock wins against his Mario and Toon Link, and one match involved me SD'ing at less than 50%. He's really good with his Toon Link and Mario, especially with Toon Link's projectiles. However, he often does things such as spamming Zero Suit Samus's grab, using Falcon Punch and Warlock Punch, and other punishable attacks. I have also noticed that he likes to meteor smash.

Smash Master KirbyHeadSSBB.png-2

A user who mains Kirby in all three games. I got to play a large amount of matches with him (June 2013), and he won the majority of our Kirby dittos and was the better player. I think this was caused by his increase damage output due to using smashes a lot, and my failure to shield them and punish them consistently. However, he had some clear fighting problems. He heavily spams all of his smashes, particularly fsmash, and his ground game literally consists only of smashes, ignoring up tilt and ftilt, and not utilizing things such as Kirby's bair or fthrow combos. He rarely tries to edgeguard offstage despite using Kirby, and has predictable habits, such as when he always tries to run towards you and up smash, perform down air followed by fsmash, or roll behind you and fsmash. He has a noticeable rolling habit and rarely shields, which makes him vulnerable to attacks such as dash attack. He also doesn't adapt well to player strategies, such as continually trying to perform down throw combos despite me escaping almost every time. I believe we could both help each other learn and improve at Brawl, since we use the same character, and hope to fight him again in the future. If he fixed the problems, especially fsmash spamming, he could become a much better player.

Scr7 MetaKnightHeadWhiteSSBB.pngPikachuHeadGreenSSBB.pngFalcoHeadRedSSBB.pngFoxHeadRedSSBB.png-1

An active contributor who prefers Smash 64 to Melee to Brawl, but enjoys all three. He mostly used Falco, Meta Knight, and Pikachu, and occasionally using Fox. When we brawled (August 2013), during the first few matches, I got wrecked, which was because of my inability to adjust to Wi-Fi lag, but later on, I won matches with greater frequency and consistency. Scr still won the majority of the matches though and is a better player. He's good at punishing my attacks, but he also rolls off of the ledge onstage, which leaves him open for punishment. I also did three-way matches with him and Boo Buddy.

I have played him again since (November 2013), and he now uses MK more than his other characters. We both improved a lot, and our matchup remained similar. I noticed that he doesn't button mash out of grabs very fast, and there were these times where we both sat in shield for a while and then I would grab him. His characters are very ground-based, unless he's performing a combo or juggle. His tech-chasing actions were also predictable, as he would always roll towards me and only change his action after being thrown a second time.

Boo Buddy BowserHeadSSBB.pngDonkeyKongHeadSSBB.png+1

A user who I brawled along with Scr7 in three-way matches (August 2013). His connection is not the greatest and you have to change the address of your Wii so you don't disconnect when fighting him, although this isn't very hard to do. I also played him in singles, and I won the majority of the matches, even in a Bowser ditto match, and I believe I am a slightly better player. However he did manage to pick up some good wins. With his Bowser, he will always use Whirling Fortress after being chain thrown, so you can do down throw to Forward smash using Dedede and get an easy KO.

PSIWolf FalcoHeadSSBB.png +2

A user who mains Falco. I was only able to play him twice (August 2013), where I three-stocked and two-stocked him respectively, because after the second match, his C-Stick broke and he was unable to continue. He's a very ground-based and defensive player (which led to his shield being broken once).

Timson622222 FalcoHeadSSBB.pngMetaKnightHeadSSBB.pngPikachuHeadSSBB.png+2

A user who has demonstrated good knowledge of the competitive smash scene as well as competitive gameplay through his contributions here. I was the second person he played on the wiki (November 2013). We played a lot of games where he mostly used Falco, but also used Meta Knight and Pikachu sometimes. I lost only one match and he was never able to beat my mains. I was able to solidly beat his Meta Knight and Pikachu with King Dedede, but my matches against his Falco were a lot closer and he probably would have won more with them if we played offline, since Falco is affected a lot by input lag. He also used Marth once and was having difficulty approaching me. He's able to utilize a lot of advanced metagame strategies for his mains, and can perform some advanced techniques such ad DACUS and Gatling Combo even under input lag, and I saw him platform cancel on the Smashville platform once. One thing I was surprised at was how fast he broke out of King Dedede's grabs, which means that he either has really fast reaction times, or knows how King Dedede punishes people really well. His edge pressure was also pretty good. However he messed up Falco's chain throw a lot (you're supposed to perform a walking grab not a dash grab), and SDed a lot as well. His defensive options near the edge could be predictable and punishable at times, as well as his approach options (especially his MK which would usually run at you with a dash attack, which can be easily shieldgrabbed). He usually rolled away from you when in a fallen position, but he can adapt to this as he mixed up his options after I started down throw tech-chasing him. He didn't shield much, and he didn't use aerials much or play offstage much (even as MK), though I don't if this is because of lag.

FireMario1534 MrGame&WatchHeadSSBB.pngGanondorfHeadSSBB.pngDiddyKongHeadSSBB.png+2

I played a lot of matches with this user (November 2013), who plays Mr. Game & Watch and Ganondorf, but we both used a wide variety of characters against each other. I was the better player and only lost one match. His Ganondorf is probably his best character, and the only time I lost was when his Ganondorf beat my Marth, but he never took any game off my King Dedede. I noticed that he uses Game & Watch's dair a lot when he's above you, which got predictable as I played him, and used Rocketbarrel Boost a lot, even onstage, which left him open to punishment. I've also noticed that eh's a very momentum-based player who, when he goes in, goes in really hard dealing a lot of damage, but gets comboed easily.

Dots MetaKnightHeadSSBB.png-4

One of the best players on the wiki. When I first brawled him (November 2013), we mostly played MK dittos. However, I wasn't able to win any of our matches, and the closest I came to beating him was the first match we played using King Dedede. I SD'ed during a lot of the matches, and he beat me in the air consistently. He also uses a lot of MK's advanced techniques such as combos using the first hits of back air, and glide attack to down smash, which caught me off guard. I need to stop shieldgrabbing to try to punish people. One thing I noticed though was that when he missed an aerial Mach Tornado, he would always roll away from me when he landed.
