Frostbite 2018 was a national Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament held in Dearborn, Michigan. It took place on February 9th-11th, 2018. On February 8th, 2018, the tournament organizers revealed that the tournament would be sponsored by Nintendo of America.[1]
This tournament sparked controversy on reddit and social media regarding Bayonetta and her perceived status as an overpowered character, due to the high number of players using her throughout the bracket, while three of the Top 8 players primarily used Bayonetta on that period of the bracket. A topic of debate sparked on whether or not the character should be banned completely from tournament play, citing significantly decreased viewership throughout Top 8 compared to previous major tournaments, as well as unfavorable reactions from the crowd and commentators on stream. [2][3]
